Walking at Graduation?
It’s almost graduation time! We are all very excited to see our students graduate and go on to do great things in life. Students may participate in our graduation ceremony AND the ceremony of their base school, unless they have been excluded from that school. Our ceremony is May 31st at 4:00 at Cedar Lane. Base high schools’ ceremonies are on various dates in June. See the following for specific dates, times, and locations: https://www.fcps.edu/graduation
As graduation day approaches, we need the following information from you. Please reply to this e-mail.
- Does your student plan to participate in our ceremony?
- Does your student want to participate in their base school ceremony?
In addition, you are advised to call the 12th-grade administrator at your child’s base school as soon as possible if your child wants to participate in their base school ceremony. The base high schools have deadlines by which they do most of their planning for setting up the ceremony and other senior events. Please contact Hala Soliman (703) 208-2402 hmsoliman@fcps.edu
Level 5 Snacks
A HUGE thank you to those parents who sent in snacks for the Level 5 Lounge.
School Health Services Survey
The Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) employs school health aides and public health nurses who provide school health services to the students in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). To determine the quality of these services, a survey has been developed by the FCHD to be shared with all parents or guardians and school staff members who interact with the school health rooms. This may include principals, school counselors, and main office staff members. The survey has been approved for distribution by the FCPS’ Internal Survey Advisory Committee.
Electronic versions of the survey forms may be accessed at:
School Health Services Survey – Parents 2019: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/85QGH7C
School Health Services Survey-Parents 2019 (Spanish): https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LLSF55F
School Health Services Survey – STAFF 2019: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/L87BPDZ
The survey will take less than five minutes to complete and will provide the FCHD with valuable information. Your participation in this important endeavor is appreciated.
School Environment survey.
FCPS is interested in learning how you feel about your school. Specifically, we are interested in your opinions about the school environment; student, teacher, and administrator relationships; and student, parent, and teacher engagement. Please complete the following survey in its entirety. Your responses are anonymous. While the survey is not mandatory, your feedback is critical to the Division so that FCPS can understand and make improvements to the student discipline process.

Tornado Drill
The Virginia Statewide Tornado Drill will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at 9:45 a.m. The Code of Virginia in § 22.1-137.1 requires all public schools to participate in at least one tornado drill each year and FCPS requires the tornado drill to be completed in March of each school year. Participation in the March 12 statewide tornado drill will fulfill that requirement. Performing the drill on this specific date is NOT a requirement, Cedar Lane will hold our Tornado Drill on Tuesday, March 19.
Verified Credit Accommodation for Students with Disabilities
Wednesday, March 27, 2019, 9 - 10:30 a.m.
Parents are encouraged to attend either session to learn about a new credit accommodation for students with disabilities who previously might have qualified for Virginia Substitute Evaluation Program (VSEP).
Students with disabilities may now be eligible to earn a Special Permission for Locally Awarded Verified Credit-Accommodation (SPLAVC-A) as a pathway to earn the necessary locally awarded verified credits to obtain a standard diploma.
This session will provide parents with an overview of the process, including eligibility criteria and potential implications, with an emphasis on 2019 graduating seniors.
Andrew Guillen, Darrell Sampson and Ellie Stack, representatives from the Department of Special Services, and Instructional Services Department will present this workshop for parents of students with disabilities.
Join us at the Parent Resource Center for one of these informative workshops.
