Herndon ES Tornado Drill will Be Conducted on March 19
The Code of Virginia requires all public schools to participate in at least one tornado drill each year and FCPS requires the tornado drill to be completed in March of each school year. Similar to previous year’s tornado drills, the National Weather Service will send a test tornado warning to start the Statewide Tornado Drill on March 19. The test warning will be tone alerted and broadcast by NOAA Weather Radio and will simulate what listeners would hear during an actual tornado warning. The Virginia Statewide Tornado Drill will be held on Tuesday, March 19, at 9:45 a.m.

Meet General Music Teacher, James Covington
This is my 7th year teaching music in public schools and 4th year at Herndon. I graduated from Ithaca College in 2009 with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, and then from the University of Maryland in 2012 with a Master’s degree in Trumpet Performance. In addition to my duties at HES, I maintain a private teaching studio of brass and woodwind students, am an instructor for the marching band at Herndon High School, and teach at Franklin Band Camp in the Summer. I am also the music director and trumpet player for The DC Transit Band, a 9-piece wedding band that performs all over the Mid-Atlantic region. I love teaching the students here at Herndon and am excited to see how they grow musically in the future.
