Celebrate Cesar Chavez Day!
March 31
|
March 31st is Cesar Chavez Day. Cesar Chavez stood for fairness, equality, and justice. He was a Mexican-American farmworker who became a world-renowned civil rights leader known for his efforts to gain better wages and working conditions for migrant farmers.
- Cesar Chavez once said, “Preservation of one’s own culture does not require contempt or disrespect for other cultures.” Use this statement as a journal or discussion prompt with your child. Ask them what it means for them to preserve their own culture.
- If they are younger, explain what “culture” means and discuss some ways that your family celebrates your culture.
- Have your child write about or draw a picture of what they enjoy doing to preserve their culture.
