Dear Westbriar Parents:
I hope we are finally in the clear with inclement weather and we can all look forward to Spring. Last month, we held our Spelling Bee on February 22nd. I want to congratulate our winner: Naina Krishnamurthy and alternate: Ishan Palapra. The county Spelling Bee will be held on March 17th. Thank you Ms. Hwang and Ms. Aronson for organizing this event for our school.

Two of our inclusion programs Fairfax Friends and iCARE will be in the exhibit hall from 10:00am - 1:30pm. If your schedule allows, please register for the conference or stop by the Fairfax Friends and iCARE tables.

FROM THE PTA
Dear Parents,
Happy Spring! As we head into the final couple months of school, some of our most popular events are yet to come. We have been hard at work getting ready for International Night, the Science Fair, Teacher Appreciation Week, the 5k Run/1Mile Walk, and Staff Basketball game. It's hard to believe that while PTA activities are in full-swing, we have selected a Nomination Committee to nominate candidates to serve on the 2019-2020 PTA Executive Board. Thank you Principal Tam, Mrs. Meoni, Heather Koo, Kevin Jacobs, and Jenni Bae who have volunteered to serve in this capacity. If you are interested in serving as the President in 2019-2020, please send me an email. Please note, if we do not fill the President position, we will not have a PTA. Voting is scheduled for May 9th at 7:00 pm in the library.

DID YOU HEAR THE NEWS?
Odyssey of the Mind
Westbriar team coached by Promod Chowbey won 3rd place among 8 teams in Division 1 for the problem: "Hide in Plain Sight"
(Problem synopsis: Teams take a cue from nature in this problem where they create and build a team-made mechanical creature that hides in plain sight. The creature will change its appearance three times to avoid being detected by a Searcher Character trying to find it. The way the creature changes will be different each time! The team will create and present a performance where its creature gets into – or out of – various situations using this resourceful skill. In the end the creature will surprise everyone by changing its appearance a final time and reveal its true self.)
Westbriar team coached by Rajit Mandapati won 3rd place in Division I among 7 teams and Westbriar team coached by Ryan Watkins won 3rd place in Division II among 6 teams for the problem "Structure Toss"
(Problem synopsis: Teams must strategize risk for points and “toss” their structures in this year’s problem-turned-carnival. They will use a device to propel the structure in a carnival game. If it travels in the air it gets higher score! Once the structure has been successfully tossed, it can be tested for strength. A carnival barker character will entice other characters to join the fun during a performance that incorporates testing the structure’s strength with creative games of skill and chance.)
Congratulations to all OoTM coaches and students for another successful year and making us proud!
