Surviving the Holocaust Presentation
On Monday, March 25th, W.T. Woodson is honored to once again host Ms. Irene Weiss, a local survivor of Auschwitz with personal ties to our Cavalier community.
Since sophomores learn about the Holocaust in Social Studies, and read Elie Wiesel’s memoir "Night," in English, an invitation has been extended to all 10th graders to attend her presentation and hear her first-person account of survival during this bleak time in history.
A prominent speaker on the Holocaust, Ms. Weiss’ current mission is to remind us of the past through her presentation. This valuable opportunity will not only provide students with a chance to draw parallels between two core courses, but it will also afford a rare chance to bring history to life. The presentation will occur during our regularly scheduled return periods (5a/b), and students will be marked excused in SIS. Due to the seating capacity of the venue, this presentation is only open to sophomores. Students will be prepped through their English classes regarding the nature of this event as well as the proper decorum warranted for such a presentation. A question and answer session will follow her remarks.
For any parent(s) or guardian(s) wishing to opt their student out of this presentation, an Opt-Out Form was emailed to 10th grade parents earlier today and is due back by Monday, March 18th. Once the form is submitted to the Main Office, your student will then be assigned to an alternative activity/location during this period.

Guest Speaker on Drug Use
On Wednesday, March 27th at 7:00 p.m., Woodson is hosting guest speaker Tony Hoffman to talk to parents about drug use. Tony will share his specific “choice” that changed his life forever. Tony walks audiences through a candid set of choices, attitudes, and thought processes that led him to his first drug. His story is full of redemption as he has seen some of the highest highs, and the lowest lows. Students will hear Mr. Hoffman during returns and parents are invited that evening at 7:00 p.m. to hear his message.
The event is free of charge, but please RSVP at Eventbrite. https://www.eventbrite.com/edit?eid=58547329639 Learn more about Tony Hoffman http://www.tonyhoffmanspeaking.com/
Upcoming Pyramid Art Show
The Woodson Fine Arts Department would like to extend an invitation to you to join us for our Annual Pyramid Art Show Reception on Wednesday, April 3rd from 6-8:00 p.m. Artwork will be on display in our Auxiliary Gym and Cavalier Hall.
The Art Show showcases work from all schools in our pyramid and represents artists in grades K-12. Advanced Placement and Level 4 artists create mini-galleries to share complete bodies of work. Our students work in many media including analog and digital photography, ceramics, sculpture, digital art, animation, printmaking, painting, and drawing.
In between enjoying the artwork, visitors can grab a bite to eat at one of the available food trucks on site and peruse small student-made artworks for sale. As always, we’ll raffle off our famous hand-painted furniture.
Our students have worked so hard this school year to put together this show and they (and we!) would be so honored to welcome you to this event.

Students who are currently in grades 9, 10, and 11 are eligible to apply, and they do not need to be current members of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SAC). Applications are due March 18, 2019. The application and related details can be found at https://www.fcps.edu/blog/application-2019-student-representative-school-board.

2019-2020 Course Registration
We are currently meeting with students to schedule for the 2019-2020 school year. If you have questions or concerns about your student’s course selections, please contact your student’s counselor. Opportunities for course changes will be limited next year. Friday, May 31st will be the last day to make course selection changes.
The third quarter of the academic year is always interesting. Some students get fatigued with the routines of school, classwork, and homework. If your student did poorly in the first semester and you are concerned whether or not he/she can still pass a course for the year, communicate with your student’s teacher.
