Games, Raffles, Pizza, and more
Bingo Night is this Friday! On Friday, March 8th, in the school cafeteria. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and games start at 6:30 p.m. Game cards and pizza can be ordered in advance from the PTA store. Please place your order by 12:00 p.m. on March 8th. Additional game cards can be purchased at the event. There will be 10 bingo games and many fun prizes! Additionally, there will be a special raffle prize for bingo card pre-sale families! We have limited square readers available for credit card transactions so in order to ensure the lines move quickly, cash transactions are preferred.

We want to thank all of our students, families, faculty, and planners for everything that was done last week to make our Dr. Seuss Birthday/Read Across America Spirit Week a huge success. You all looked amazing in your crazy socks, funny hats, wacky clothes, and dressed as your favorite book characters. We hope the younger students enjoyed their guest readers and that everyone enjoyed the Dr. Seuss school supplies. Most importantly, we hope that you all took some time this weekend to enjoy a good book! “You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax; all you need is a book.” – Dr. Seuss

Attention Parents: Cafeteria Volunteers Needed |
Please consider volunteering to help out in the cafeteria on Tuesday, March 12. We are short a cafeteria hostess so the extra hands would be helpful. No training required, the hostess will give you a bucket with condiments, etc. to pass out as kids raise their hands for help. Use this link to sign-up.

Silent Auction Donation Request
Plans are already underway for one of our most significant fundraising events of the year – the Willow Springs 22nd Annual Silent Auction! The Silent Auction will take place from April 26th to May 3rd and will be entirely online.
Do you have a small business and want to donate to the auction? Willow Springs PTA loves to support local businesses, and your contributions would be tax deductible.
Please contact Nayyiara Siddiqui at willowspringssa@gmail.com for more details! Even if you don’t have a company or goods to donate, but would like to help find donors or have connections to businesses that may wish to contribute, we would love to hear from you. Last year the Willow Springs Silent Auction brought in over $8,000 for the PTA, and we hope to beat that number this year. Any assistance that you can provide would be sincerely appreciated.
World Festival
Our big event is planned for Friday, May 10th. Our World Festival planners need your help. They are looking for families (or groups of families) to sponsor booths from all of the diverse countries our students represent. Thank you to all of the families that have already registered for our Willow Springs Leprechaun Chase! This stroller-friendly, Family Fun Run/Walk will take place through the streets of Hampton Chase, starting and ending in front of the school (a little less than 2 miles). Participants can complete small obstacles along the way to obtain different colored strands of beads. Can you complete all the challenges to earn a full rainbow? Registration will include race participation and our Fun & Fitness Expo. Although the t-shirt deadline has already passed, it's never too late to register for joining in the fun! Registrations will be accepted up until the day of the race. Proceeds from the event will go to support all PTA future events and programs. As a bonus, Mr. Taylor has agreed to complete the race in a Leprechaun costume if we can get 300 participants. So please, gather your family and join us for this inaugural run!!
If you plan to attend the event to cheer your runners on, but not run yourself, would you consider volunteering? We’d love help with race packet distribution, collecting last-minute registrations, or even handing out beads as participants complete obstacles! To volunteer, click here.

 On Saturday, February 23rd, 26 students, fifth and sixth graders, competed in the Division B Regional Science Olympiad, a middle school level competition held annually at Lake Braddock High School. Willow Springs fielded two teams to compete in various events. Willow Springs' Team Strange received 12th place overall and 2nd place among Elementary Schools. The students on Team Charm placed 3rd among the Elementary Schools. Those students earning medals were: Saahiti Anantharaju, Oliver Mishak, Adithya Pillai, Nia Thakkar, Dylan Truncellito, Ashvatt Senthil Venkatesh, and Saketha Vijay.

Kindergarten Registration Now Open for 2019-20 School Year! |
If you have a child who will reach the age of five on or before September 30, 2019, they are eligible to attend kindergarten for the 2019-20 school year. If your child meets the age requirement and lives within the boundaries of Willow Springs Elementary School they may be registered at this time. Please sign up for a registration appointment and reserve a space for the orientation session soon. Forms and documents required for registration can be found through this link (scroll down to Student Registration) to the Willow Springs website. Student registrations have a direct impact on teacher staffing so the sooner registrations take place the better able we are to staff accordingly. WSES SOL Testing Schedule
The Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) tests are required of all students in Grades 3-8 across the state by the Virginia Department of Education. SOL tests measure the extent to which students have learned the content and skills specified in the Virginia SOLs. In order to assist your spring planning, the SOL schedule is listed below.
