"It's not how smart you are that matters, what really counts is how you are smart." - Howard Gardner
Dear Justice Families,
Hopefully, we are almost at the end of the winter weather, with no more 2 hour late starts and school closings!
March promises to be filled with many exciting events. We will be celebrating Women's History Month. Members of our Girl Up Team will highlight, during our morning announcements, the great contributions that women have made to our nation. In addition, we have on our schedule a choral concert, International night, the spring play and kick off our spring sports. See below for important dates as well as click on the calendar link for detailed information on individual sporting events.
Last, 11th graders will be taking their SOL writing assessment beginning this week. This is considered high stakes testing for our students and will be used in determining our school’s annual progress by the Virginia Department of Education. Our teachers have worked to ensure that all students are prepared and successful.
Looking forward to a great week of learning.
The Symphonic Band traveled to West Potomac High School on Friday evening and performed at the District 10 Virginia State Concert Band Assessment and earned a superior rating, the highest rating possible. The Wind ensemble performed at the same assessment on Saturday afternoon and also earned a superior rating. There are six levels of band literature graded from level one, the easiest level, to level six, the most advanced level. Our Symphonic Band performed a grade four program and our Wind Ensemble performed a grade six program.
Due to the ratings earned from this program and our Marching Band's earlier superior rating on the Marching Assessment in October, the Justice Band is once again a Virginia Honor Band. The band is a twelve time Virginia Honor Band.
Our Science Olympiad team medaled in six events at last week's local competition and are now headed to compete in the state competition at UVA on March 23. These students have really gone above and beyond this year and we are very proud of each and every one of them.
This week during Wolf Time we will focus on FCPS and Fairfax Connector/Metro bus safety and students will also take a bus pass survey to provide feedback on the current Justice HS Metro bus pilot program. Also during Wolf Time, students on the “All A” and “A/B” Honor Rolls for second quarter will be permitted to participate in a “free honor roll return” in the auditorium. And finally, we will be holding a “Perfect Attendance Ceremony” for students who had perfect attendance for the first semester. Students will receive a certificate and a donut in the cafeteria.
During Positivity Project lesson on Tuesday, our students and staff will move into part two of the hope and optimism lesson. They will focus on how their positive words, thoughts, and actions can drive others to be better versions of themselves. They also will write notes that will be posted on a new “Wall of Hope and Optimism” bulletin board in the school to share with other students at Justice!
AIR PODS - We have noticed an increase in missing/misplaced AIR PODS here at school. We understand that these small wireless headphones are expensive and we make every effort to recover them. We are asking students to please consider leaving them at home as we do not always have the resources available to locate them. As a reminder, if a student ever loses an item, we ask them to report it to an administrator or security personal immediately.
Lost and Found - This week, we will display in the cafeteria coats and outerwear left behind and not claimed so far this year. If your student misplaced an article of clothing, please have them check during lunch. All items not claimed will be donated to Goodwill.
