Library News

Last week Oak Hill Elementary, along with schools all over the nation, celebrated Read Across America. Sponsored by the National Education Association, Read Across America celebrations help students to recognize the joys of reading and honor Dr. Seuss, whose birthday is March 2nd. At Oak Hill we opened the week-long celebration with book character dress-up day. Several students and MANY staff members participated and spent the day dressed in style as “The Man with the Yellow Hat”, “The Princess in Black”, “Corduroy”, and Mo Willems’ “Elephant and Piggie”, to name a few. Tuesday-Friday were Dr. Seuss theme days such as The Lorax day, The Sleep Book day and Fox in Socks day. Friday was reserved for guest readers in classrooms and Cat in the Hat colors, followed by a reading train in the afternoon. NEA’s Read Across America Day is one of the biggest literacy events in the U.S. The continuation of these kinds of events helps encourage and motivate students to be successful lifelong readers.
