Fairfax Villa Tuesday Message

CRAZY SOCK DAY AT THE VILLA!

FAIRFAX VILLA SPIRIT WEEK!

The SCA is excited to announce this year’s Spirit Week from February 25th - March 1st. The SCA has chosen to celebrate our love of reading by celebrating Read Across America with the rest of the nation. Students are highlighting five Dr. Seuss books and will end the week dressed up as a favorite book character.

Wednesday, February 27th: Wacky Wednesday:

One pant leg rolled up with the other down, two different shoes, stripes, polka dots, whatever your heart may choose! Put your wackiest of clothes together on this day – Wacky Wednesday

Thursday, February 28th:  Travel T-Shirt Thursday:

Wear a shirt that represents a place you LOVE to travel to or hope to someday go! Oh, the Places You’ll Go

Friday, March 1st: Character Day:

Pick one of your FAVORITE characters of all time and dress up like them for the day! – The Cat in the Hat

NEW AFTERNOON KISS AND RIDE TRAFFIC LANES

Due to safety concerns and gridlock during afternoon dismissal, as of March 4th, parents/guardians will no longer be permitted to turn left from Santa Clara Drive to enter the AFTERNOON Kiss and Ride lot.

Kiss and Ride cars will line up on the westbound side of Santa Clara – coming from either University Drive or Bellavia Lane. That line will turn right from Santa Clara Drive into the Kiss and Ride Lot.

To exit the Kiss and Ride lot, cars may turn either right (to go westbound toward Alta Vista Drive) or left (to go eastbound toward Bellavia Lane).

The morning Kiss and Ride procedures will remain the same. Thank you for your cooperation as we continue to make safety our #1 priority at Fairfax Villa.

MAY SOL TESTING

A good website for practicing the content for the SOLs is SOLPass at http://www.solpass.org/login/  To access this site, students should type in our school's name until it appears. They can get the password from their teacher or Ms. Schmidt.

Please try to avoid scheduling appointments during your child’s SOL testing and ensure that your student gets a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast. If you know that your child will be absent during a test, please contact her or his teacher as soon as possible.

The Math and Reading assessments are computer adaptive. All tests will begin at 9:30 in the morning. For students to feel comfortable with the format of the online tests, all 3rd grade students as well as all older students who are new to th SOLs will learn about the types of questions and the tools that are on the tests. Students who use the audio option will also have an opportunity to see how that feature works before using it on the SOLs.

If you would like more information on the SOL test formats and the practice tools that are available to the public, go to http://doe.virginia.gov/testing/sol/practice_items/testnav8.shtml

GLOW DANCE! WHAT A SUCCESS!

Thank you to everyone that came out to the Glow Dance this past Friday. A fabulous time (dancing, playing games and socializing) was had by all! Thank you to DJ Chris Perry for keeping the party going with the music. Thank you to Rita’s Italian Ice for attending and selling their tasty ice. It was so good that they ran out at 8pm! And thanks to the volunteers who helped sell concessions, paint faces, take photographs and help monitor the hallways. Your help was greatly appreciated. And as always, we couldn’t hold these events without the help from the Villa custodial staff. Thank you, Mr. Tu and Ms. Thai!

A HUGE shout out to Mr. Tu for helping make the gym dark enough for the black lights to really work. That made all the difference!

SUPPORTING THE PTA

There are three ways you can support the PTA. 1. Join the PTA! When you join the PTA, you become an advocate for your child and every other Villa student. We normally meet the third Wednesday of the month and many times will have guest speakers or other programs as well. PTA Membership forms will be in your student’s Tuesday folder.   You can also join online at http://villapta.ptboard.com. The school code is DRAPTE. 2. Donate! Any amount given is helpful and it all goes into benefits and services that benefit the Villa staff and students. 3. Volunteer! Volunteering is NOT required but it is always greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please contact us at villapta@gmail.com
