Principal's Message - 2/23/19

Stone MS

Dear Stone Parents and Guardians,

We had a busy week at Stone and I would like to thank each of you for your patience and support as we navigated through the winter weather.  The Principal’s Honor Roll Reception was well attended, and we were thrilled to celebrate with our students who earned all “A’s” second quarter.  We had 158 students and their parents in attendance.

We are really proud of our orchestra students under the direction of Ms. Molly Sgrecci, who performed their pre-assessment pieces for the community on Thursday.  They did a great job and we wish them much success during their District Orchestra Assessment next week.

Thank you for attending our PTSA McTeacher’s Night at McDonald’s in Centreville off Route 28.  We truly appreciate your support!

Special recognition to Ms. Ruby Brown, Algebra and Pre-Algebra teacher who was selected as the Westfield Pyramid Outstanding New Teacher of the year.  Congratulations to Mrs. Sandy Roger, one of our Special Education teachers who was selected as the Westfield Pyramid Outstanding Teacher of the year.  We are so proud of all of our teachers and the work they do with our students.

Do you know a Stone Middle School staff member who does ordinary things in an extraordinary way or goes beyond what is expected? If so, then click here to share with everyone.  We would love to hear from you.

Thanks for your continued support!

Amielia Mitchell
Principal

WHS COMMUNITY: SUPPORTING KIDS IN A DIGITAL WORLD

Please mark your calendars for a special event being planned for the Westfield community: Supporting Kids in a Digital World.  For kids, digital life is real life. It's where they build friendships, take a stand on issues, and do so much more. Come learn how we can work together to help students navigate this digital world.

Date: Tuesday, March 26, 2019
Time: 6:15 p.m. - 8:15 p.m.
Where: Westfield High School

The evening will offer a wealth of information for parents through an engaging format. We’ll begin with a large-group presentation (including a student panel) and then breakout into a series of sessions aimed at building understanding around issues facing our kids (and parents) right now. Ultimately, we hope to highlight the importance of taking a shared responsibility in helping our kids learn how to behave safely, ethically, and responsibly online.
This event is being organized by Westfield pyramid instructional technology leaders, with support from other experts in FCPS. Representatives from the Fairfax County Police will also be present to offer insight and support from their roles in our community. We hope you can join us for this unique and important event!

Childcare will be provided for students under 10 years old (must be potty-trained). Students who are 10 or older are invited to attend with their parents/guardians

EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSING

Keep in mind, the decision to close school is not a local school decision.  It is made with much care and consideration from the Superintendent’s office.  Please check the Fairfax County Public Schools page at www.fcps.edu and other media outlets to find out when or if school will be closed.
