Glasgow Community Gazette - February 18

Glasgow Community:

Happy President’s Day! I hope you are enjoying the long weekend with family and friends.

On Saturday, I brought my kids with me to watch our students perform at Justice High School’s Broadway Desserts concert. I love seeing our current and former students performing on stage! At Glasgow, we plant seeds every day, through our consistency, our accountability and our support of our students. Sometimes we see the growth while they are in our classrooms and halls; other times we see it years later on a high school stage. It is important remember as middle school parents and educators that while we may not always see the growth in the moment, it will pay off later.

This week mark the beginning of the District Band, Chorus and Orchestra Assessment season. All of our ensembles will be performing in front of professional adjudicators at various FCPS locations during the month of March. For performing ensembles, these are the most important performances of the school year. To prepare of these assessments, ensembles will host “Pre-Assessment Concerts” to prepare for the big events. The Band Pre-Assessment is this Wednesday, February 20 and the first Orchestra Pre-Assessment is on Thursday, February 21. Both concerts begin at 7:00pm at Justice High School.

Finally, we had a lot of fun celebrating Open Campus this week with all three grade levels. It was great to see students participating in activities like mindfulness, rock painting, reading with hot chocolate and even getting to go outside for basketball! Open Campus is truly community event, and we could not do it without the support and enthusiasm of our teachers and staff!

As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Important Information

2019-2020 Course Registration for Rising 7th Graders - Glasgow Student Services will be meeting with rising 7th grade students to register them for next year’s courses in the near future! Here is a link to the Glasgow course descriptions: https://insys.fcps.edu/CourseCatOnline/#/frontPanel/360/nocourselist/1/1/1

In addition, students learned about course options in Panther Time this past week. Students explored the kinds of classes they can take, the difference between general education and honors classes, and what choices they have for electives. After reviewing the information students completed a “think sheet” to practice selecting their classes.

Please note that all course request changes are due by April 12, 2019. Finalizing requests by this date allows us to invest in staffing and resources based on students’ needs and interests. We will be finalizing schedules and placements throughout the late Spring and summer months.
