WEEK 22: LOVE

As we celebrate Bucket Filling Week next week, let’s revisit last week’s message about love! Love means that you value close relationships with others and being close to people. If you love a person, that person makes you feel safe and secure. You can be yourself with that person. Love is important to an individual’s happiness and fulfillment in life. It allows us to open up to another person, which gives us the ability to learn and grow. Love also helps you access strengths – and feelings – you never knew you had.

Bucket Filling Week is next week!  Check out the school-wide dress up days starting after President’s Day and the students will enjoy special activities to further promote kindness that week

Unified Sports with Special Olympics at Deer Park

We are excited to announce that we will be starting a Unified Sports Team with Special Olympics at Deer Park Elementary School this school year!  This program was designed by the Special Olympics to develop school communities where students are agents of change - fostering respect, dignity, and advocacy for people with disabilities.

Team sports bring people together. The Special Olympics Unified Sports Teams include people with and without special needs in an effort to shatter stereotypes through positive interaction on the playing field. They do this by creating athletic competitions in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children with and without special needs.  Teachers have reported the program to be extremely effective at impacting youth, promoting physical activity, and inspiring leadership.

Practices for our CES Unified Sports team will be held once a week during the school day from March 4 through May 24.  As a culminating event, our students will participate in the Falls Church Little Feet Meet scheduled for Thursday, May 30, 2019.

We are looking for mentors in grades 3-6 and special Olympic athletes who meet the criteria. A permission form has been sent home with potential mentors and a green folder has been sent home to potential athletes. All forms are due back by Wednesday February 20th, 2019. If your child is interested in being a mentor and you did not receive a permission form, please contact Serena Mui at SMui@fcps.edu

School Health Services Survey

The Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) employs school health aides and public health nurses who provide school health services to the students in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). To determine the quality of these services, a survey has been developed by the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD). The survey will take less than five minutes to complete and will provide the FCHD with valuable information.  Your participation in this important endeavor is appreciated.

Electronic versions of the survey forms may be accessed at:
