We need 4 volunteers on Spring Picture Day, Wednesday, March 13, 2019, from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm. Volunteers can work either all day or a morning or afternoon. Calling all Kindergartners
We need your help in projecting the Kindergarten enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year. Any child who lives within our school boundaries and will be five years old on or before September 30, 2019 is eligible to attend GBW. If you know of a neighbor (within our boundaries) who has a child eligible for Kindergarten, please share this information with them and encourage them to contact school registrar, Patty Li, at 703-633-6700.  Read Across GBW:
On Friday, March 1st all students and staff will line the halls and enjoy some quality reading time for 30 minutes. Make sure students have a favorite book to read on this day!
Donations Needed
The GBW Book Swap is on Friday, March 1 as a part of Read Across America week! What book will you choose?
The Book Swap is a free annual event that celebrates Read Across America Week! We ask that every student donate a gently used book or books so that each student will be able to take a book home.
A collection bin is located in the main lobby for your donations. Thank you for helping out with this event!

Spring Box Tops Challenge NOW through March 29
Who will raise the most money from Box Tops for Education this year? Please refer to your Thursday folder packet (sent home last week) about participating in the Box Tops for Education program. Each Box Top is worth $0.10 for GBW.
- Cut/Clip all Box Tops from qualifying products you purchase or already have in your cabinets.
- Send the collected Box Tops to your teacher in a sealed bag labeled with your child’s name and the teacher’s name.
The top student and the top three classrooms with the most Box Tops will receive a prize! The classroom teacher who turns in the most Box Tops by the end of February wins a prize too!

GBW Bingo Night- March 1
GBW BINGO Night is Friday, March 1, at 6:00 pm.
Hurry to get those orders in for BINGO Night before the event sells out! BINGO Night is a fun family night filled with pizza, BINGO games, lots of great prizes and the chance to win exciting raffle prizes from local businesses.
Order forms have been coming home in Thursday folders. Advance orders are due by Monday, February 25. This event usually sells out in advance so it is unlikely tickets will be sold at the door. BINGO Night is sponsored by the sixth grade families. All proceeds go toward the sixth grade promotion party and class gift to the school. Please come out to support our sixth graders and have a fun night with your family and friends! Johns Hopkins University is currently working to evaluate the FCPSOn initiative in Fairfax County Public Schools. This initiative “moves FCPS students and staff members to look beyond the high stakes testing environment and to help our students develop skills so they can be successful in the workforce of the future.”
Greenbriar West along with the rest of the Chantilly Pyramid is in year three of FCPSOn and our GBW 4-6th grade students are being asked to participate in a brief survey during school hours.
If you AGREE with your child's participation in the survey, you do not need to do anything- your child will automatically be included unless you opt them out.

Herndon-Fortnightly Public Library was one of three libraries in Virginia selected to host a full day of public training provided by Google, part of their Grow with Google initiative. The Herndon-Fortnightly Library will be providing a full day of classes to the public focused on job seeking, tech skills for entrepreneurs, and basic to intermediate digital literacy on March 6th.
