FCPS Family Engagement Survey

Dear Families,

Fairfax County Public Schools will be conducting a survey to gather information about family engagement in our schools. Relationships are important to us, and your opinion is critical to help us support your engagement in your child’s education. Your feedback will also help us determine how well we are reaching the goals for Caring Culture we have set in our Strategic Plan. Survey translations will be made available, and the survey can be taken on electronic devices, including smartphones.

Survey administration is scheduled for March 24-April 12, 2019, and you will receive more information about how to take the survey in the near future.

We look forward to hearing from you!

SCA thanks the KG Gator family!

Thank you to the KG Gator family for supporting our Valentine Candy Gram sales!  Over 1,200 Candy Grams were sold last week, and the $300 proceeds will be donated to the Fairfax Falcons Paralympic Basketball Team, a Fairfax County Youth Sports Program!!  Thank you!

Tdap Notice for Parents of 5th Graders

Virginia Law requires that all students entering sixth grade receive a booster dose of the Tdap vaccine prior to the beginning of school. The Tdap vaccine protects against tetanus (lockjaw), diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough) and is usually given around the age of 11, although it can be given as early as seven years of age.

In order for your child to begin 6th grade you will need to submit a copy of your child’s immunization record showing the Tdap vaccine before the first day of school.  It is recommended that all paperwork is submitted to the school office by June 13, 2019.

A Tdap Notice was sent home with all 5th Grade students in the progress report envelope on Tuesday, February 12th.

February Reading and Creative Challenge

Thank you to our participants who completed the January Reading Challenge. For February, the challenge is for you and a partner to create a diorama of a scene from a historical fiction or fantasy novel that you have read. Paper supplies for the diorama base can be found in the Art Room or in the library Makerspace. Watch this video if you're interested in learning how to make a diorama.

Remember to take and glue a picture of your diorama in the booklet, and show it to Mrs. Dean in the library. Bring your diorama to the library if you would like to put it on display. (More Information)

  • Play bingo in the KG cafeteria to win prizes
  • Buy tickets for raffle items which include themed baskets (such as Pokemon, Shopkins, books or gift cards)
  • Buy raffle tickets for Kings Park teacher experiences (ex. have pizza and a movie with your teacher!)
  • Bid on Kings Glen teacher experiences (ex. Play laser tag with your teacher)
  • Take a silly photo in the photo booth
  • Eat some pizza and snacks with your friends!

As part of Baskets & Bingo, each class provides a themed basket which is raffled off at the event.

Basket Themes

We are looking for volunteers to serve as "Classroom Basket Parents" to coordinate and advertise their assigned theme to classroom parents, collect donated items, assemble them into a class basket, and bring it to Kings Glen ES after school on Friday, March 8th. Thank you in advance for your help, and feel free to contact Jessie Auten and Kirsten Pugh Walker with any questions!

We hope you will join us for this fun event on Friday, March 8th!
