Glasgow Community:

This past week we welcomed hundreds of current fifth grade students and their families into our building for Rising 6th Grade Open House! Throughout the evening, parents sought me out to share the great things they have heard about Glasgow from their friends and neighbors. It was wonderful to see their excitement about sending their student(s) to Glasgow next year.

This week, we are excited to celebrate our students during Open Campus! This is a quarterly event that fosters a caring community and inclusively celebrates successful behavior. It works in conjunction with our PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention & Support) program and provides students with the opportunity to attend an activity of their choice for an afternoon, hosted by a teacher or community member. Kids love this event and many of our teachers and staff contribute to its success by planning and hosting fun activities. Check out the video on Apple 21 highlighting Open Campus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmkvkrOS704.

Finally, I hope you will join me this Tuesday at the Glasgow PTA's sponsored presentation "Exploring Our Cultures, Building Our Community" 7:00 to 8:00PM. The FCPS Office of Equity and Cultural Responsiveness will lead this highly interactive workshop using hands-on activities designed to get parents learning together and interacting with one another. She will also share some of the initiatives FCPS has put in place to support staff in working with all students, families, and colleagues.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Glasgow Goodies

Panthers of the Month: Risk Takers - The IB Learner Profile that we focused on this month for our Panther of the Month was risk taking.  Students who demonstrate risk taking approach unfamiliar situations with courage, are independent in exploring new roles and ideas, and are brave in defending their beliefs.

Our Panthers of the Month, Matthew Cruz Quisbert, Ruth Tewodros, Denise Ramos-Mazaba, Wilder Mendez-Alonzo, Nick Machado Mejia, and Ashley Trejo-Estrada were chosen for confidently attempting to find new ways to solve problems, sharing their thinking even when they are unsure of the answers, accepting and applying feedback in needed areas of growth, never being afraid of showing their work or opinion, approaching challenging problems, and always feeling confident in asking questions! Congratulations to all of our winners and nominees!

Glasgow Represented at All District 10 Band - Glasgow was well represented at the All District 10 Band on February 2. The students did a remarkable job, overcoming the loss of over half of their rehearsal time to a snow day and still putting on an incredible performance. Please see the attached picture and join us in congratulating the Glasgow All District Band Participants: Willem Hemmens, Sam Clements, Sam Belmar, Dena Huynh, Luka Mendoza-Felix, Arthur Prudis, Dan Rios Zeballos, Indigo Brookes-Weiss, Valeria Peterson, Samuel Brent, Noah Canzoneri, Nathaniel Kenschaft, Miles Stadtler, Edward Meagh, Kyle Wilson, Sabrina Ehmann-Jones,Ronan Bates, and Eamon Maloney.

In addition, students learned about course options in Panther Time this past week. Students explored the kinds of classes they can take, the difference between general education and honors classes, and what choices they have for electives. After reviewing the information students completed a “think sheet” to practice selecting their classes.

Please note that all course request changes are due by April 12, 2019. Finalizing requests by this date allows us to invest in staffing and resources based on students’ needs and interests. We will be finalizing schedules and placements throughout the late Spring and summer months.
