Terra Centre Families,

What an exciting week!  Arts Night was a huge success!  We had artwork displayed throughout the building from every student in grades K-6.  We even had artwork from TC alumni and 5th grade ocean exhibits on display!

We enjoyed a musical performance by our 3rd graders.  They sang “What a Wonderful World,” a song about appreciating the beauty of your surroundings, the passage of time, and watching our children grow.  They also sang “Roar,” a song about courage, determination and believing in yourself, all of which we try to instill in our students!  Both songs were perfect for the evening as we unveiled a timeless piece of beauty that represents the uniqueness of our school and what we value as a community with the message that Terra Centre is Planting Ideas and Growing Minds.  Check out the pictures below of our glass and ceramic mosaic mural!

Special thanks to Kristin Bauersfeld, our art teacher, Tiffany Hagen, one of our music teachers, and Michelle Patterson, one of our 5th grade teachers.  Thank you to Mr. Au, our building supervisor, and the entire custodial team.  Thank you to the many staff and parent volunteers!  We appreciate all of your hard work to make Arts Night such a success!  Thank you to Kristy Weinshel, our PTA president, the entire PTA, and our community for funding our mosaic.  None of this would have been possible without them!  And thank you to our 6th grade parents for bringing us an amazing selection of dinner choices at Arts Night!

Finally, a big shout out to our 3rd grade parents for the delicious Taco Luncheon this week!  Please see below for additional updates from Terra Centre and Robinson.

Final Mural

Mural Column 2

Mural Column 1

In the words of our art teacher, Ms. Bauersfeld:

When I look at the mural, what I see is the PROCESS, the story behind the final work of art.  I see all the little hands that worked to create the clay pieces… shaping the spirals and the butterfly wings and the ladybugs… crouching down so their noses nearly touched the clay as they concentrated on getting the details just right… debating cheerfully or sometimes heatedly with their friends about exactly what colors should be used.  When I look at the mural I see the 2 days that Ali visited our school and taught us, students and staff, about how to use the snipper tools to cut and shape the small pieces of glass and then fit them like tiny puzzle pieces into the overall design.  When I look at the mural, I see all of the collaboration with Ali to come up with a design that would speak to our school’s unique personality and mission.

And what we’ve created, through the process, is something so much more meaningful than the beautiful end product.  My hope is that this mural will be like a portal.  Every morning as students and staff arrive at school, they’ll be welcomed by its message of growth and transformation through learning and self-expression.
