SLHS News & Announcements 2-8-19

2/8/19

Dear Seahawk Families:

FCPS Survey

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is studying how school environments relate to discipline practices in the Division. As part of the study, you will receive a survey from FCPS’ Office of Research and Strategic Improvement.  A small number of classrooms will also participate in the study’s student survey. The surveys are designed to help FCPS understand your and your child’s thoughts about the school environment and how discipline is approached in their school.

Surveys to parents will be translated into multiple languages and come via eNotify. Student surveys will be administered at school. Participation is voluntary for you and your child, and all responses will be anonymous.

I encourage you to participate in this important survey to help FCPS understand what is working well and where we can improve.

SeaHawkins Winter Dance- TOMORROW Night

Leadership could use a few more hands to help at the dance tomorrow night. The dance is at school and from 8:00-11:00PM. There are shifts available to help with coat check, monitoring the games and other general chaperone duties.  We have a number of staff members who have volunteered but they could use a few parents as well. If you can help-out you can use the sign-up genius https://m.signupgenius.com/#!/showSignUp/30e0e4baea622a5f94-chaperone

Attendance

The state has implemented a new school accreditation measure around attendance. Students who miss more than 10% of the school year (18 days in the year) for ANY reason, excused or unexcused, are considered chronically absent. If we reach a certain threshold of students who are chronically absent, SLHS will not meet that accreditation standard. Please be mindful of the school schedule when you plan trips or other events that will result in your child missing school. Please visit the FCPS website https://www.fcps.edu/node/34134 for more information about the importance of school attendance.  For your planning purposes, below are links to the school calendars for both this year and next year.
