Dear Waynewood Owls,
There were so many fun events this week! On Wednesday we were treated to a performance by the Discovery Theater. Children learned about the history of the “Black Diamond”. The performance taught us all about the African Americans who started their own baseball league before baseball was integrated. Ask your child what they learned about Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson, and Jackie Robinson. A huge thank you to our PTA for sponsoring this performance.
We also had our second annual Spelling Bee! We were so impressed with all the spellers. Everyone did an amazing job, and we could tell that the students worked hard to practice before the bee. A special thank you to Holly Watters and Tara Hicks for organizing this year’s bee. I also want to thank the staff who volunteered their time to pronounce and judge. Molly Prater, Amanda Ludovici, Meg Clark, Kathryn Adams, Katy Jetton, Diane Hohman, Valerie Krause, Maureen Vora and Ben Reigner all did a great job helping the bee to run smoothly! Congratulations to our grades K-2 Junior Bee winner, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Kellogg! Our Senior Bee winner was Shaan Nagda. Shaan will be representing Waynewood at the district bee. We know he will do a great job!
In Renovation news, we are excited to announce that our new electronic sign should be making an appearance in the next two weeks! We should also have a lot of the front walkway cleared out during that time frame so that the main entrance is a lot more accessible.
On February 13th, it is Crossing Guard Appreciation Day. Mrs. Taylor works hard, rain or shine, to make sure students and parents can safely cross Waynewood Blvd. to get to and from school each day. We plan to present her with a small token of appreciation from the school. It would be wonderful if the kids could make her a card to show their appreciation that day as well.
Next week we hope you will visit the Book Fair. Books make a great Valentine’s Day treat! More information about the Book Fair can be found below.
Tonight we hope to see you at Bingo Night. This is a great family event and is always a Waynewood favorite!
Sincerely,
Katie Cachine, Principal
Alice Berenbaum, Assistant Principal
There have been several concerns reported about cars passing in the Kiss and Ride lane. Please do not pass others. We ask that you be patient in order to ensure the safety of all students. Please also take care to drive slowly through our parking lot. There are a lot of little people around!
School begins promptly at 9:15. This means that students should be in their classrooms at 9:15. Please adjust your schedule if needed to allow your child to get to the classroom by 9:15 so that your child can have a smooth transition to the school day.
Everyone did an amazing job at the spelling bee! Congratulations to our winners, Lizzie and Shaan

Last, but never least, we need volunteers!!! Because we are open all day long and a couple of evenings, we rely on help from parents that are able to get away even if only for a few hours. Please check out the link below and see if there is a time that would work best for you.

The prognosticators at Waynewood didn’t get it right?!? With more than 1,000 items/votes cast, the Rams eked out ahead of the patriots for the food drive. If you haven’t had a chance to drop off items for the back pack food drive, we can still use them to try to get us through the end of the year. Bring them to bingo tonight!
We are still in need of breakfast items, fruit and peanut butter. Thank you so much for your help and your generosity!
