A note from Dr. Goodloe:
Dear Rocky Run Families,
It has been a week full of good things at Rocky Run MS. We were grateful to have our students for four full block days! A few highlights:
- Fantastic turnout for our Rising 7th grade Rams Curriculum Night. We look forward to welcoming our new students in the fall of 2019.
- Congratulations to our Science Olympiad Team (pictured below). They are moving on to States!
- Congratulations to our Math Counts team for their 3rd place recognition.
- We have enjoyed celebrating our Outstanding Counselors during National School Counselors Week. If you would like to thank a counselor please fill out this form
- Academic Advising is in full swing. Please feel free to reach out to our Student Services Team if you have any questions.
We enjoyed a break from the cold weather earlier this week and as dismissals were happening, I encouraged the students to be sure to take time to go outside and to play! It reminded me that no matter the weather, cold and snowy, or sunny and warm, it is important to take some time to enjoy the outdoors and refresh from hard work and learning!
I welcome your feedback, questions and suggestions. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time. I hope to see you at Rocky Run very soon.
Sincerely,
Amy T. Goodloe, Ed.D

Invitation from Fairfax HS - ANGST: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety
On Wednesday, February 20th at 6:30 p.m. in the Fairfax Auditorium, join us for a free screening of ANGST, a film about anxiety, truth & hope. https://angstmovie.com/
No tickets are required, but please RSVP here to help us estimate attendance.
This documentary, produced by IndieFlix, is for all parents and guardians of students in grades K-12 and students over the age of 13.
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health challenge in the U.S., impacting 54 percent of females and 46 percent of males, with age seven being the median age of onset, according to the World Health Organization. While anxiety disorders are highly treatable, only one-third of those suffering receive treatment. Everyone involved in the development of “Angst” has a personal experience with anxiety – from the producers to the interviewees.
Representatives will be available after the screening to provide resources to support families.
For more information about this event, please contact Fairfax Director of Student Services, Laura Rotella at larotella@fcps.edu

Under Construction: Renovation News
- We are getting excited about the finishes for our new spaces and are looking for ideas for murals and artwork. We welcome suggestions from our students and the community.
- Interior work in the addition is progressing rapidly now that we are under roof. Several classrooms on the first floor are currently being painted and having ceilings installed.
- Finishing touches on the new Kiss and Ride traffic circle off of Poplar Tree Road are going in. We anticipate opening the new traffic circle in the spring.
- Our renovation team is reviewing proposals for classroom furniture as we plan for the instructional spaces that will open in August 2019.
- Transformation of the old library into the new Lecture Hall is well under way. New walls are up and construction on the new student bathrooms has begun.
Air Quality: During construction, questions about indoor air quality arise. The most recent air quality tests met all standards. Regular spot checks around the building have also been taking place and are all within expected limits. The air quality inside the building is monitored at least once per month. Please visit the Rocky Run website to review FAQs related to indoor air quality.
If you have specific questions about the renovation, please email them to Administrative Assistant, AJ Ries, ajries@fcps.edu or call the Rocky Run MS main office at 703-802-7700.
We will post updates, pictures, timelines, etc on this page on our website. This page will also be linked as a static announcement on our homepage as we move through the renovation process.
