Dear FMS Parents and Guardians:
Wow! It is great to have a full week of instruction. The past few weeks have been so riddled with early closings, delayed openings, and student holidays. Even with the fits and starts the students jumped right back into the swing of things. The next schedule days out of school are February 18th, President’s Day, and March 11th, a 3 hour early release. I’m hopeful we’ve seen the worst of winter!
In spite of all of the delays and closings our students have shined in the Math Counts competition this past Saturday. Frost students placed in the Top 10 in the team competition. On the individual competition, we had 7 students place in the top 25% of 512 students from around the region. Our overall top scorer was Sean Su. Congratulations Sean! Sol Song was our top Sprint scorer, placed in the top 16 and competed in the Countdown Round! Congratulations to all of our students who participated in the Math Counts competition.
On January 28th, 31 students competed in the 3rd Annual Frost Spelling Bee. The top finishers were Ezekiel Estabillo / Ashley Hwang (4th), Meghan Hembree (3rd), Eric Kim (2nd), and Yilin Tan (1st). All students, though, deserve credit for prepping and putting themselves out there!
The bee would not have been possible without the following people:
--- PTA members who provided the bee grant, especially the parents of Eric/Allison Kim, Eitan Kiss, Sean Prendergast, Munir/Yasmin Kudrati-Plummer, Ezekiel/Allaine Estabillo, and Kartikay Georg, for organizing / attending.
Fingers crossed that Yilin does well at the Fairfax County Bee on March 17 and makes it on ESPN in May...
This week was National School Counseling Week. We are so fortunate to have a great student services department at Frost. They coordinated our elementary school visits this week. All of the rising 6th grade students had the opportunity to visit classrooms, take a tour, and get a taste of our outstanding music and theatre arts program. A special thanks to Mr. Joo, Ms. Dunn, Ms. Avina, and Ms. Balderston!!!
#ONE Frost in Action
This is the first installment for the school year of what will become a weekly segment aimed at recognizing students for demonstrating recent improvement or achievement in academics, behavior or citizenship. I want to showcase what ONE Frost means to us! At the end of each recognition, you will see the name of the nominating teacher or staff member. On a monthly basis, departments and/or faculty members will nominate students.
