National School Counseling Week

"School Counselors: Providing Lessons for Life," will be celebrated from February 4-8, 2019, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems.  National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success. This special week provides recognition of counselors for being actively engaged in helping students examine their abilities, strengths, interests and talents; and for focusing on positive ways to enhance students’ social/personal, educational and career development.  The combination of their training and experience makes them an integral part of the total educational program.

COUNSELORS, WE CELEBRATE YOU!  THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO!

Rising 7th Grade Curriculum Night

Parents and Guardians of students who will attend Rachel Carson Middle School beginning in the fall of 2019  are cordially invited to RCMS to attend the Rising 7th Grade Curriculum Night on Wednesday, February 6.  This program is designed to provide parents an opportunity to learn about the middle school course selection process, the academic and elective course offerings and requirements, and afterschool programs that are available.

The program for parents participating in special education will begin at 5:30PM in the library.

At 6:15PM, the elective showcase for parents will begin.  Parents should report directly to RCMS cafeteria for an elective showcase. Have you ever wondered what goes on in the elective classes? Parents, this is your opportunity to learn more about the different elective options at Rachel Carson Middle and ask teachers questions before you and your child select electives for the next year. Elective teachers will be introducing information on their exciting and engaging classes for school year 2019-2020.

At 7:00PM, the general session for parents will begin.  Parents should report directly to RCMS Gymnasium for the general program overview. The Curriculum Night will conclude at 8:15PM.

It is our hope that you will gain valuable information to facilitate conversations with your child as you help them prepare to make appropriate course selections.

For your convenience, overflow parking will be available at Nysmith School.

If Fairfax County Public Schools cancels evening activities for Wednesday, January 30, 2019 this event will be rescheduled for Wednesday, February 6, 2019. If you have any questions, please contact Rachel Carson Middle School Student Services at 703-925-3614.
