Registration Now Open for Select FCPS Summer Learning Opportunities
Registration is now open for the following Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) summer enrichment camps and institutes: Elementary Institute for the Arts (E-IFTA), Institute for the Arts (IFTA), STEM Camp, Tech Adventure Camp, and Adult and Community Education (ACE) Extended Day Enrichment programs. These camps and institutes will be held at Fairfax High School.
General information on individual programs and registration is available on the Summer Learning web page. Transportation from select schools outside of the Fairfax High School pyramid is included in the tuition for E-IFTA, IFTA, STEM Camp, and Tech Adventure Camp. Students should register for programs based on the grade they are in during the current 2018-2019 school year.

Elementary Institute for the Arts (E-IFTA)
Dates:
Week 1: Monday, July 8 — Friday, July 12
Week 2: Monday, July 15 — Friday, July 19
Week 3: Monday, July 22 — Friday, July 26
Time: 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., daily
E-IFTA is a weekly arts and STEAM camp for students currently in grades 3-5 who love to sing, dance, act, perform, make, and create. Students attending E-IFTA rotate between classes in dance, music, theatre, and visual art. Some classes may integrate technology and engineering-rich STEAM lessons. Class content changes every week so students may attend one or more weeks.

Institute for the Arts (IFTA)
Dates: Monday, July 1 — Friday, July 26 (No classes July 4 and 5)
Time: 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday-Friday
IFTA is a comprehensive arts enrichment and academic program for students currently in grades 6–11. Students take 4 classes which they choose from over 80 in dance, music, theatre, visual art, and fashion. Students entering grade 9 may take the Online Health & PE (HPE9) course and students entering grades 9-12 may take the Self-Directed Economics and Personal Finance course as one of their 4 classes.

STEM Camp
Dates:
Session 1: Monday, June 24 — Friday, June 28
Session 2: Monday, July 8 — Friday, July 12

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Camp is a one-week camp with both elementary and middle school sections that allows students to explore various engineering fields. Elementary STEM Camp is open to students currently in grades 3-5. Campers will explore STEM-based careers and technology as they rotate through engaging engineering activities to inspire students around mathematics and scientific concepts. Middle school Secondary STEM Camp is open to students currently in grades 8-9 and will explore advanced engineering concepts and projects. Please note: both STEM sessions include identical content, so students should only register for one session.

Tech Adventure Camp
Dates: Monday, July 15 — Friday, July 26
Time: 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., daily
Tech Adventure Camp is for students currently in grades 5-7. This camp allows students to explore careers and technology by rotating through eight areas including automotive technology, culinary arts, robotics, and STEM activities.

Adult and Community Education (ACE) Extended Day Enrichment Classes
Dates: Monday, June 24 — Friday, July 26
Time: 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., daily (classes begin after IFTA, E-IFTA, Tech Adventure Camp, and STEM Camp end)
ACE classes are for students currently in grades 1-11 and provide a continuum of activities for students who want additional programs and activities. Programs include Global Plus Language Program, Culinary Adventure Camp, Language Immersion Camp, Creative Writing, Computer Graphics, Chess, Learning Across the USA ESOL Camp, Effective Study Skills, Young Writers Workshop, Leadership Skills for Teens, Fun Physics for Teens, and Intro to Filmmaking.

Adult and Community Education (ACE) Secondary Classes

Classes include Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) admissions test prep, SAT test prep, study skills, and Driver Education. Held at various locations.

Secondary Course Credit
Self-Directed Economics and Personal
Dates:
Session 1: Wednesday, April 24 — Monday, June 24
Session 2: Monday, July 1 — Thursday, August 1
The Self-Directed Economics and Personal Finance course requires students to complete work without direct teacher instruction or support. Beginning this summer, the content and material for this course will be delivered in Virtual Virginia’s online environment. Students may only take this course as "Pass/Fail."
Registration: Monday, March 11 — Friday, April 12 for session 1 and Monday, March 11 — Friday, June 14 for session 2.
ESOL Online: Language and Literacy Connections
Dates: Monday, June 24 — Tuesday, July 16
Times:
Morning session, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., daily
Evening session, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., daily
ESOL Language and Literacy Connections is an online, three-week, non-credit class that provides FCPS middle and high school ESOL students the opportunity to engage in thematic lessons in an online environment with an ESOL teacher. Students will continue developing their academic reading and writing skills in an online discussion with an ESOL teacher.

The Credit Recovery Academy provides an opportunity for students to recover one high school course credit. Students may not take these courses for new course credit.

The Madison Summer Academy provides summer acceleration in Honors Geometry, Health & PE 9, or Health & PE 10 for eligible FCPS students who are current or incoming students at Madison, Marshall, McLean, and Oakton High School.
