Oak Hill's awesome counselors Mrs. Gallagher and Mrs. Ryder.
National School Counseling Week 2019 is being celebrated this week to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. School counselors have a tremendous impact in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Oak Hill would like to thank our counselors, Mrs. Kimberly Gallagher and Mrs. Christy Ryder, for all of their hard work and dedication.
If you would like to send Mrs. Gallagher or Mrs. Ryder a note through the FCPS Cares recognition program, please click here.

Second graders designing and creating The Marvelous Toy...which will make the sounds zip, bop, and whirr!
Students have many opportunities to enhance their Portrait of A Graduate skills in the STEAM Lab. Through activities such as building bird beaks, designing toys, cleaning oil spills, designing submersibles, creating new cultures, etc., students communicate, collaborate, and share their critical and creative thinking as they work through the Engineering Design Process. Their conversations are rich and focused as they share ideas and problem solve as a team to work toward solutions. The positive buzz in the room, even when mistakes are made and students need to work through the “improve” stage, is exciting!
The materials we use in the STEAM lab are primarily recyclables such as cardboard tubes, plastic containers, small boxes, egg cartons, etc. and craft supplies such as cotton balls, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, yarn, etc. We have a collection box in the school lobby and happily accept donations of these types of materials! For fun, collect some of these items at home and enjoy creating something with your child!
