Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
- Two hour delays are for the welfare of students and their families. When we have a 2 hour delay, doors open at 10:35 am. Please drop students off at 10:35 am. It is not safe for students to wait for extended periods of time in the cold temperatures.
- Kiss and Ride - please wait patiently in the Kiss and Ride line. Parking and getting out of the car only adds to the wait time for all. We appreciate your help in keeping the line moving!
- With cold weather upon us, we know that waiting outside is unpleasant, please plan to arrive close to dismissal time. When you enter the building, you must report immediately to the main office and sign in for the safety of all students. Visitors without identifying check in stickers will be asked to sign in or wait patiently outside.

Did you know Dogwood ES has its own lending library in the front of the school? It is two sided, one side for books written in English and the other for books written in Spanish. The winter is a great time to curl up with a good book. You can just walk right up and place books you are finished with in the little house. When see one you like while you are donating, feel free to borrow it. When you finish with it, stick it back in so another child can read it. Currently we are without any Spanish books for students to choose and light on the selection of English books, too. We are always accepting donations. Please think about donating any books you are not currently using!
In February, The Dogwood Café is getting a salad bar. Students will have the opportunity to choose fresh fruits, vegetables and proteins each day from the salad bar in addition to our hot lunch options. This healthy addition will add to our students lunchroom experience. Students will receive a salad bar lesson during the week of February 11th so that they will learn salad bar etiquette and healthy habits. We will be sending more information in Take Home Thursday Folders.
Many students participate in summer learning opportunities to advance academically, to sharpen their skills, to learn something new, or to participate in fun camps and institutes. Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) summer learning opportunities include a Credit Recovery Academy that offers credit recovery courses, intervention classes, and test remediation classes; a credit accrual program and summer institute at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology; and online options through the Online Campus. In addition, students will be able to take a Self-Directed Economics and Personal Finance course through the Virtual Virginia’s online environment. Elementary and secondary intervention and enrichment camps and institutes will also be offered. Details including program dates, tuition and registration information will be posted as it becomes available on the FCPS Summer Learning webpage.
