Other People Matter Mindset Element -- Supporting Others When They Struggle

As a note, the purpose of the Other People Matter Mindset weeks is to consistently remind students why they're learning to see these character strengths in themselves and others -- to build positive relationships.

Next week, we will learn about supporting others when they struggle. Supporting other people when they struggle is a critical piece of being human. There is a Chinese saying that sums this up: “If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.” There are many different approaches to helping people who are struggling. These can include: listening while they describe an event and their feelings about it, taking action to help people in need, or simply just being there and sitting together in silence. Talking through a problem is a common way to help a person who is going through a tough time.

Meet Our New Special Education Teacher,

Carol Ferry

Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself as the newest member of the Little Run staff. I am excited to be joining the Special Education Team as a teacher working with Little Run’s Second and Third Graders. I am originally from Rhode Island where I earned both my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in the areas of Elementary Education, Special Education and Reading. I have been most fortunate to have had a long career in education in which I have enjoyed wonderful roles working with students, staff, administrators, parents and the community from school districts in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Virginia. I have experience working as a Special Education Teacher from Pre-school to High School, a Diagnostic Prescriptive Teacher, a Literacy Coach, a Literacy Consultant, a Pre-school Director, a Team Chairperson, a Coordinator of Pre-school and Elementary Level Special Education Curriculum and Program Development, and as a Student Support Services Consultant. I look forward to be able to share some of the best practices I have learned with my new students at Little Run!
