Supporting Kids in a Digital World, Community Event

Please mark your calendars for a special event being planned for the Westfield community: Supporting Kids in a Digital World.

For kids, digital life is real life. It's where they build friendships, take a stand on issues, and do so much more.  Come learn how we can work together to help students navigate this digital world.

Date: Tuesday, March 26, 2019

Time: 6:15 p.m. - 8:15 p.m.

Where: Westfield High School

The evening will offer a wealth of information for parents through an engaging format.  We’ll begin with a large-group presentation (including a student panel) and then breakout into a series of sessions aimed at building understanding around issues facing our kids (and parents) right now.  Ultimately, we hope to highlight the importance of taking a shared responsibility in helping our kids learn how to behave safely, ethically, and responsibly online.

In order for us to make this event as meaningful as possible, please respond to the following (short) survey so that we can plan accordingly:

Responses are appreciated by Friday, February 1st.

This event is being organized by Westfield pyramid instructional technology leaders, with support from other experts in FCPS.  Representatives from the Fairfax County Police will also be present to offer insight and support from their roles in our community.  We hope you can join us for this unique and important event!

Childcare will be provided for students under 10 years old (must be potty-trained).  Students who are 10 or older are invited to attend with their parents/guardians.

The schools in the Westfield Pyramid are: Cub Run Elementary School, Deer Park Elementary School, London Towne Elementary School, Virginia Run Elementary School, Bull Run Elementary School, Coates Elementary School, Floris Elementary School, McNair Elementary School, Stone Middle School and Westfield High School.

Support to Families Impacted by the Partial Federal Government Shutdown

To support families affected by the partial federal government shutdown, Fairfax County Public Schools will continue its current practice to ensure that no FCPS student will go hungry and will sponsor a hiring event for furloughed federal employees.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided to all students regardless of ability to pay or temporary financial circumstances. There will be no “lunch shaming” and unpaid balances will be allowed to accrue during this time.

SACC When Schools Are Delayed

Beginning January 7, on days when FCPS announces a two-hour delayed opening, School Age Child Care (SACC) centers will open at 8 a.m. for children enrolled in the Before School session. The one-hour delayed opening of SACC is to provide additional time for road conditions to improve and be adequately assessed, and parking lots and sidewalks to be cleared as needed.

Note: The SACC program is run by Fairfax County Government, NOT FCPS.
