Winter is here! Are you prepared for weather delays and cancellations?
No School Friday, January 25
Friday, January 25, schools will be closed for students for an end of the second quarter/start of the third quarter teacher professional development, planning and preparation day.
Be Prepared for Weather Delays & Cancellations
With the arrival of winter weather, please make certain that arrangements have been made for your children in the event that inclement weather causes a change in the school schedule (i.e. school closed, school opening two hours late, or school closing two hours early). FCPS will make its decision based on the safety of students and staff, following consultation with numerous weather and safety agencies. Due to the speed of updating, the official @FCPSnews Twitter account is generally the first and fastest mode of communication. Other communication channels will be updated as quickly as possible including email, text, website, other social media, and news stations. For additional information on FCPS' weather cancellation procedures click here.
Salad Bar Coming January 30
We are excited to announce that Hollin Meadow is going to the next level of providing our students and staff with a healthier lunch! Beginning on Wednesday, January 30, we will be implementing the “Real Food for Kids” Salad Bar. All students will select their fruits and vegetables for lunch from the salad bar, and then they may complete their lunch by choosing either the salad bar protein and grains or the hot entrée listed on the menu for that day. Students will “practice” salad bar etiquette and new procedures for the lunch line before the salad bar opens. We are excited that our students will have so many fresh fruits and vegetables to choose from each day and look forward to joining many other FCPS schools that have had the opportunity to implement the salad bar successfully this school year!
Cold Weather & Recess
During cold spells, students at Hollin Meadows will have daily outdoor recess. Parents should send their children to school prepared to play outdoors (jackets, gloves, and hats). The only exceptions will be if is raining, there is snow & ice on the ground or the National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory/warning. If you need assistance with getting a jacket, please contact guidance counselor Deb Storck or school social worker Marsi Beschel.
