Important Information
6th Grade Family Life Education Instructional Program Information - Our 6th grade students will be participating in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Family Life Education (FLE) program from January 28-February 1. Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.
Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program. Students who are opted out will be provided age-appropriate, non-punitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices. If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, please fill in the opt-out form below for the appropriate grade level and return it to Glasgow Middle School’s main office.
Program questions may be addressed at your child’s school or by contacting Kristy Ritchie at 703-813-8758.

TJHSST Admissions - Semifinalists Just Announced - Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology semifinalists were announced this Friday, January 18 through the online system. Glasgow students that are selected as semifinalists will need to send out teacher recommendation request through their online system as soon as possible, the deadline for teacher submission is January 25 and testing date is Saturday, February 9.
Parents please encourage your student to start planning now which teachers they will request recommendations from if they become semifinalists. TJ is looking for students to obtain 2 teacher recommendations; one must be a 7th or 8th grade math or science teacher, the other can be any 7th or 8th grade teacher. The recommendations are done online only and submitted directly to TJ by each teacher. Semifinalists will meet with our TJ counselor liaisons for more information about the process and reminders.
If you have any questions please reach out to our TJ Liaison Counselor Greg Franz at gdfranz@fcps.edu or (703) 813-8733.
2019-2020 Course Registration for Rising 8th and 7th Graders - Glasgow Student Services is excited to begin meeting with your students to register them for next year’s courses! Counselors will meet one-on-one with each student to review course options and complete the course selection form. Sometime before March 15, your student will bring home a copy of their selections for you to sign and return within three days. Here is a link to the Glasgow course descriptions: https://insys.fcps.edu/CourseCatOnline/#/frontPanel/360/nocourselist/1/1/1
In addition, 6th and 7th grade students learned about course options in Panther Time last week. Students explored the kinds of classes they can take, the difference between general education and honors classes, and what choices they have for electives. After reviewing the information students completed a “think sheet” to practice selecting their classes.
This Thursday, 7th grade students will watch a video on the elective offerings during FIT. Our goal is to empower students to feel confident about their educational choices and continue these conversations at home.
Please note that all course request changes are due by April 12, 2019. Finalizing requests by this date allows us to invest in staffing and resources based on students’ needs and interests. We will be finalizing schedules and placements throughout the late Spring and summer months.
