 Terra Centre Families,
It’s been an interesting week with all the winter weather we have experienced! We would like to give a huge shout out to our amazing custodial staff for working outside in the elements to ensure that our grounds and building are safe for students, parents, and staff. Thank you to our teachers and staff for working so hard to maintain routines and student focus through the many schedule changes.
We hope that you stay warm and enjoy the long weekend with your family! Please see below for updates from Terra Centre, Robinson, and FCPS.

Upcoming Lockdown Drill
In accordance with the Code of Virginia, all FCPS schools conduct lockdown drills at least four times each year. All schools already conducted two in the first 20 days of school. Two additional lockdown drills must be completed during the remainder of the school year, one of which must occur in January. Terra Centre will be conducting a lockdown drill by January 31.
Lockdown drills are for students and staff to practice what would happen if a threat entered the school building. As with any preparedness procedures, it is important to train students and staff to effectively implement a lockdown, in the event it becomes necessary to execute one. Training helps ensure a calmer, more effective lockdown. This drill is generally short in duration, typically lasting no longer than a fire drill.
FCPS Emergency Planning and Crisis Response
Fairfax County Public Schools' main goal is to keep students and staff safe at school. Our crisis and emergency response plans have been cited as a national model. We continually work with county, state, and federal health, safety, and emergency personnel leaders to ensure coordinated responses to potential threats. We also drill for emergency situations and then review and revise plans as needed.
Terms and Procedures for Emergency Response
It is important that all public safety officials, school administrators, communication officers, and members of the media understand and use a common terminology (Lockdown, Secure the Building, Shelter in Place, Stay Put Stay Tuned). For parents, understanding the terminology may ease fears and concerns during an incident. For more information on terminology as well as FCPS Emergency Planning and Crisis Response, please visit https://www.fcps.edu/resources/safety-and-transportation/emergency-planning-and-crisis-response .

Volunteers Needed for TC Arts Night 2019
On Tuesday evening, February 5, 2019, we will celebrate Arts Night at Terra Centre. As in past years, the event will feature artwork from every child in the school grades K - 6. This year will be extra special because we will be unveiling the glass and ceramic MURAL that the students have been creating under the guidance of artist Ali Mirsky.
In addition, we will have:
- Musical performance by 3rd grade
- Ocean Animal exhibits by 5th grade
- Rock painting
- FOOD FOR SALE from Papa Johns and Glory Days by the 6th grade fundraising committee
If you are able to help, we need some volunteers to pull this off!
Click here to volunteer: TC Arts Night 2019
To volunteer to help with the food sale, there is a separate Signup Genius available on the PTA website at http://tcpta.org/tc-art-night
