CLEARVIEW UPDATES- January 16, 2019
SCHOOL CLOSURES
All schools in FCPS will dismiss three hours early on Friday, January 18. All FCPS schools and offices are also closed on Monday, January 21 in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Additionally, students will not attend school on Friday, January 25 due to a staff work day.
PRIMARY MATH NIGHT
Come join us for an evening of fun math activities for parents and students in grades K-2. Older Clearview students are welcome to attend, but the activities will be designed for students in kindergarten through second grade.
Who: Students in Grades K-2 and their parents
When: Thursday, January 31st from 6:00-7:30 P.M.
Where: Clearview Elementary, 12635 Builders Road
Transportation: A bus will pick up Clearview students and families at Berkdale Apartments at 5:45 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. The bus will also have return trips at 7:10 P.M. and 7:30 P.M.

JANUARY PTA MEETING
Please join us in the cafeteria for our monthly PTA meeting tonight at, January 16 at 7:00 PM. Karen Hawley, from the FCPS Parent Resource Center, will be our featured speaker before the meeting. She will discuss the Parent Resource Center and all the programs and services they offer for FCPS students and families.
SPIRIT NIGHT AT CHUCK E. CHEESE
Our annual Chuck E. Cheese spirit day is coming up on Monday, January 21st. This is a great way to spend your afternoon or evening since our children won’t be in school that day. Chuck E. Cheese is located at 2465 Centreville, Suite J9 in Herndon.
FCCPTA GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
The next Fairfax County Council Parent Teacher Association general membership meeting is on January 23 and they have a terrific parent program scheduled! All PTA members are welcome at FCCPTA General Membership meetings. Meetings are held at the FCPS Gatehouse Administration Center. Park in the underground lot located at the back of the building and take the elevator to the First Floor Café.

-7:30 p.m. “Executive Functioning and Digital Media: A Framework for Understanding and Addressing the Challenges of Technology Use.” Executive function, the “ability to get things done” (organize, plan accordingly, set goals, prioritize etc.) is still developing in children and adolescents. Digital media can make it harder for children to develop proper executive function. FCPS school psychologists Dr. Ellen Goldberger and Dr. Josh Kefer are joining us to discuss how adolescents often struggle to regulate their use of digital media. We will explore these challenges and learn how to support our adolescents to lead healthy digital lives.
VA LOTTERY AND VA PTA THANK A TEACHER ART CONTEST
Virginia PTA is proud to partner with the Virginia Lottery to launch the second year of the Thank a Teacher Art Contest. Students can now enter their original artwork for the chance to win. Winners will receive a $150 gift card, $1,000 for their school’s art department and will have their design featured on thousands of thank-you notes distributed statewide during National Teacher Appreciation Week 2019. VIRGINIA PTA POWER PLATES CONTEST
Do you have a budding chef? Power Plates is Virginia PTA’s student recipe program to encourage healthy eating habits. Students can enter their original, healthy recipes in one or more categories including breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack and dessert. Entering takes three easy steps: 1. Write down the recipe 2. Fill out the student entry form 3. Take a picture of their dish. The student entry form can be found at https://www.vapta.org/health-and-safety/power-plates. For more information, contact healthandsafety@vapta.org. We would love to see our Clearview students represented in this fun contest! Entry deadline is February 4th.
SILENT AUCTION
Clearview PTA’s annual silent auction will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2019. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and we need volunteers to help make this a successful event for our community. Arpita Patel is graciously leading this effort, but she needs help with various aspects of this exciting event. Please reach out to Arpita if you can assist with event planning, donation solicitation or any other tasks that may come up. Arpita can be reached at arpitaptl@gmail.com.
PTA CLOTHING DRIVE
The PTA’s clothing drive is still taking place and the following items are needed:
- Winter coats for men and women in all adult sizes.
- Boots for children, men and women in all sizes.
- Halloween costumes for next year.
- White shirts and black pants for chorus and band.
Items collected will be distributed by Clearview staff to Clearview families. Drop your donations off in the black and white polka dot bin in the Clearview front lobby.
