Notes from the School Counselor

Hello Parents,

***SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: I am proud to announce that we will have an extra hand in our school!  Please welcome Cameron Boster, our counseling intern from Marymount University.  He will start at Franconia on Friday, 1/18, and will be here until March.

In the month of December, our school reflected on the character trait, "generosity" - a willingness to share and give to others.  Students had the opportunity to vote for students in their class that demonstrated generosity.  The names of those students who were nominated are:

Kindergarten - Anabelle, Madilyne, Jayden, Callan

First Grade - Evan, Christian, Youseff

Second Grade - Margaret, Noah, Lorenzo

Third Grade - Bethlehem, Emma, Sophia, Hailey

Fourth Grade - Valerie, AJ

Fifth Grade - Gabrielle, Zoe, Leah

Sixth Grade - Sarbagya, Angel

The next character trait we will focus on will be, "acceptance" - including and respecting EVERYONE, regardless of race, gender, disability, or religion.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Furthermore, I wanted to share with you our upcoming classroom guidance topics which includes:
Kindergarten - Learning how to be a good friend
First Grade - Social Thinking Curriculum: Learning how to think with your eyes
Second Grade - What does self-advocate mean and how do I self-advocate for myself at school (part 1)
Third Grade - Growth vs. Fixed Mindset
Fourth Grade - How to resolve conflict with friends
Fifth Grade - Skills for Success (continue discussions on organization, time management, and focus)
Sixth Grade - What are A.N.T.S. (Automatic Negative Thoughts) and how can I overcome them.
For further questions and concerns or for individual student referrals, please contact Veronica Guillion, School Counselor, 703-822-2256.
