School News

Speak Up, Be Safe Parent Preview. Camelot is partnering with Fairfax County’s Department of Family Services (DFS) to bring this program to Camelot students. The Speak Up Be Safe curriculum, a researched-based primary prevention curriculum for Pre-K through 6th grade, is designed to teach children how to identify abuse, how to identify and talk to safe adults, and provides five key safety rules children can follow to help adults keep them safe. The program also teaches students how to identify and build skills to resist all types of abuse including; physical, emotional, sexual, neglect, bullying, and cyberbullying. Parents are invited to preview this program on January 22 at 6:30 in the school cafeteria. More information, including opt-out information, will be sent home soon. This program will be delivered to Camelot students by DFS facilitators during the week of January 28.

Science Night. On Thursday, January 24, from 6:30-7:45pm, Camelot teachers will present science demonstrations and experiments for families to enjoy. This event will be held in the cafeteria and gym. Walk around and explore! Students must be accompanied by an adult.

Authors and Artists Museum. On Thursday, February 28 from 6-7pm, families are invited to take a look at student writing and student art which will be displayed around the school. Your student will be your “tour guide” and will help you find their work in the exhibit!

FCPS Magnet Program Info. The Magnet Program registration window will be open from March 5, 2019 through April 4, 2019. To learn more about the programs and the registration process, share the following link https://www.fcps.edu/registration/elementary-magnet-school-lottery.with interested parents by Friday, January 18, 2019 and encourage families to attend one of the Parent Informational Nights:

Donuts with Dudes is TOMORROW!  We hope you can join us for a special Donuts with Dudesmorning tomorrow at 8:30 am! All important men in our students’ lives (dads,uncles, grandpas, etc) are invited to share donuts with the students.  Abig thanks to our sponsor, VM Design + Build.

Kids Night In -- THIS Friday, January 11,  6:30-9:30pm!  The Kids Night In Fundraiser is a fun-filled night forCamelot students to play games, watch a movie and dance the night away! You canregister through the form in the Thursday envelope or at the event tomorrownight. Presale is $15/student, $25/two or more. Night of pricing: $20/studentor $30/two or more students.

We still need a few 6th grade parent and student volunteers,as well as food and craft donations for a successful event. McDonald's Restaurant Night, next Tuesday, January 15.   Mark your calendars for next Tuesday  January 15th from5-8pm. A portion of all sales (including drive thru!) that evening will go toour school. This is for the Gallows Road location only. See you there!

Winter After School Enrichment Classes are HERE!!   We are excited to offer the following line-up of after-schoolenrichment classes for the 8-week winter session beginning the week of January14th. (Friday classes will begin February 1st.)

Tuesdays-Chess Club or Art Factory, Wednesdays-Robotics, Thursdays-KidzKeys or Guitar Club, Fridays-Coding Club or Ultimate Dance Fitness with GlowLights.

Calling all Cheerleaders!  Just a friendly reminder that there is a mandatory parentmeeting for the Camelot Cheer Program Thursday January 10, 7pm in the schoolcafeteria! Fun Run - Final Results!  What anAMAZING Fun Run we had this year! The final tally for fundraising came to$22,320! These funds will help support our school and students in activitieslike field trips, makerspace, acceptance team and so much more! Thank you toeveryone who participated, donated, obtained pledges, volunteered, etc.,especially Molly Southworth, Laura Smart, and Maryellen Dewolfe, who put somuch time into making this event so successful.
