AP Opt-Out Forms

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Today, January 9th, every student who is currently enrolled in an AP course through FCPS will receive an AP Opt -Out Form from the county. The forms are being distributed through your student’s Warhawk Time period. As you may be aware, FCPS’s 2018-19 Budget requires a fee from students after a certain number of AP Exams. The county will pay for up to six (6) AP Exams throughout a student’s tenure in FCPS. Any additional exams beyond six  will require a fee of $93 per exam to be paid to the county.

The Opt- Out Form allows students and families to decide if they wish to opt out of any of their current AP exams. Please understand it is Madison’s and FCPS’s full expectation that every student enrolled in an AP course completes the course and sits for the AP exam in May.  If a student does wish to opt out of an exam they must indicate which exam they want to opt out of on the official Opt Out Form from the county. This form needs to be turned into the Counseling Department no later than January 22 by the student or parent directly.

Please ask to see the Opt-Out form and review it with your student. If your student does not wish to opt out then no action is necessary. The AP Opt-Out form only needs to be handed in if the student wishes to opt out of an exam. Based on this information the county will be billing families directly in April for any exams over the number of six (6). This is the student’s only window to opt out of this year's exam(s).

Please contact your student’s school counselor or me with any questions.
