Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety

On Thursday, January 24th at 7:00 p.m. (snow date: Tuesday, January 29th) in the Woodson Auditorium, join us for a free screening of ANGST, a film about anxiety, truth & hope. This documentary is for all parents of students in grades K-12 and students over the age of 13. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health challenge in the U.S., impacting 54% of females and 46% of males, with age seven being the median age of onset, according to the World Health Organization. While anxiety disorders are highly treatable, only one-third of those suffering receive treatment. Everyone involved in the development of "Angst" has a personal experience with anxiety - from the producers to the interviewees. Representatives will be available after the screening to provide resources to support families. For more information about this event, please contact Woodson Director of Student Services, Beth Lash at bllash@fcps.edu.

Yearbook Photo Submissions Open to All

We are working with a new vendor this year. They have provided an area for us to allow anyone to upload images (families, volunteers, etc.). The link below has the links for drop boxes for each homeroom and for special events.
Once you are in the drop box area, there is an “Add images” to the far right. You click on that and then go to the area where the images are. We will be adding more drop boxes as they happen, such as for spirit week next week. Please share the link I am posting here with your parents. Everyone will be able to upload, but not delete images.

We prefer images that have medium (not low) quality/resolution (the medium selection from a smartphone). We also prefer images that are not using bunny ears (fingers over someone’s head), have more than one student in the photos and that the people in the image are facing us, not where we have the back of their heads. Feel free to request an event drop box if one isn’t there and I’ll add it or email me if you have questions.

Summary on photo preferences
1. Medium resolution/quality or higher
2. Includes more than one student
3. Students are NOT using bunny ears, sticking out their tongues or using crazy faces their parents might not like printed
4. We see the majority of people’s faces and not the back of their heads
5. It isn’t blurry Thanks everyone.

Reminder About Early Dismissals

As shared in the first day folders, children will not be called
out of class for early dismissal after 3:40pm and cannot be
released to anyone other than a parent unless that person is
on the emergency care card. The exception to the emergency
care card requirement would be a release authorized by the
parent through an email to
MantuaElem.Attendance@fcps.edu received prior to 1pm that day.
For “play dates” notes from parents of both the visitor and the
host will be required for students planning to go home with a
friend or neighbor after school. Students without
corresponding notes will follow their typical dismissal plan.

There is a new direct email link on the Mantua ES Website for reporting dismissals and absences  to https://mantuaes.fcps.edu/attendance-form
