Acting Assistant Principal, Amanda Dorr

Dear Floris Families,

We hope you have had a wonderful winter break and a fabulous New Year!  We are very much in the swing of things as we end our first week back to school.

First, please join me in welcoming Amanda Dorr, acting assistant principal, in Mr. Gerstner’s absence. Mrs. Dorr is very excited to be a part of the Floris family over the next few weeks. She was born and raised in West Virginia and moved to the Northern Virginia area fourteen years ago. Mrs. Dorr began working with Fairfax County Public Schools in 2004, serving in various roles such as: an Employment Transition Representative, a high school and middle school special education teacher- math and science, and as an ESY DHOH teacher and administrator.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Fairmont State College, a master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling from WVU, a master’s in special education from GMU, and recently finished her Administrative Certificate through ACC/UVA. Some personal things about Mrs. Dorr: She has two children, Julian (9) and Jamison (6), and two fur babies Nala and Jack. As a family, they enjoy swimming at camp, going for walks/runs, and fishing. Mrs. Dorr just ran her first 5K in November and looks forward to trying another one in the spring. She is fluent in sign language and loves crafting. Organizing spaces and event planning are Mrs. Dorr’s hobbies. Welcome, Mrs. Dorr!

Today, we held our annual Geography Bee, which showcased our students’ knowledge of states, the nation, and the world.  Congratulations to Connor Johnson, winner of the competition, Evan Meade, who won 2nd place, and Liam Danner who won 3rd  place, as well as all our participants on a job well done. We are also very proud of all our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders for showing their geography prowess in the initial competitions that took place in their classrooms.

This afternoon we looking forward to our 4th grade strings concert. Under the direction of Ms. Rehder and Ms. Geers, these beginning students have learned tremendously and we are so proud of their accomplishments. We hope to see you at the concert.

Finally, we are so delighted to see our students’ artwork displayed in the Herndon Connection. Check out this link:
