Happy New Year! 2019 holds so much promise for each of our students as they grow, take risks and learn. We can't wait to see everyone on Monday.
What's Happening at Mount Eagle
January 4, 2019
School Opens on Monday!
After much needed time for rest with family, we are excited to open our doors at 8:25am on Monday for the start of 2019. As always, arriving on time ensures your child begins the day prepared for learning. It gives time for breakfast, checking in with friends and settling in for all the learning our teachers have prepared. This weekend is the time to set that bedtime (all screens off) by 8:30am. The start of a new year is also a great time to think about building more independence with your child. What might be an age-appropriate responsibility that you can turn over to your child?
Grades 4, 5 & 6 Will Take a Student Survey
This winter our school, in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Education and the University of Virginia, is participating in a statewide student school climate survey. The purpose of this survey is to help schools assess their progress in establishing a positive school climate that promotes student learning.
The survey will be completed online using computers at school beginning in mid-January. The survey does not ask for your child’s name and all answers are anonymous (no one will know how your child answered the survey). Parents will not have access to their child’s survey answers. There is a copy of the survey available at school for your review and is available online at http://www.doe.virginia.gov/support/school-climate/index.shtml.
The survey will ask questions such as how students feel about Mount Eagle, how students get along with one another and their teachers, how students feel about school rules, their perceptions of their teachers’ willingness to help them, and how they feel about attending school. They will also be asked what kinds of bullying they may have observed at school and whether they have been bullied themselves.
The survey is voluntary and your child can decide not to participate. If you do not wish for your child to participate, please notify the school office by telephone or letter by January 9, 2019.
Your child will not receive any immediate benefit from participating in the survey, but the survey will help us to maintain a safe, inviting, and supportive learning environment for your child.
If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Consolla at Mount Eagle.

Dress for the Cold Weather!
At Mount Eagle, we go outside for 2 recesses a day. The only time we stay in is when it's raining or it's unsafe to play (usually because of snow/ice). We do go outside when it's below 32 degrees, so make sure your child has a warm jacket. If you need assistance with getting a jacket, please contact Lily Delcampo, our parent liaison.

Deadlines for Advanced Academics referrals
Each year, certain students in Grades 2-6 are screened for Level IV services in the FCPS Advanced Academics Program. Your Partners In Education
We are honored to work with your family this year and will work everyday to ensure a safe and positive learning environment for your child. We can't do it alone. Please contact us when there is a question or concern, especially related to bullying. As a parent, you will often hear about something before staff might. Thank you for all your support.
