Dr. Ward with 3 Halley ES Principals

Happy Retirement Dr. Ward!

Former Halley Principals, Jan Funk and Jamey Chianetta and current Halley Principal, Kerry Peerman, all bid Blessings and Well Wishes to Dr. Ward!

Dr. Ward has made an extraordinary difference at Halley!

She will be incredibly missed.

Ms. VanDerhoff & Her 2nd Grade Class

Congratulations Emily Vanderhoff!

National Board Certified Teacher

Ms. Vanderhoff (2nd grade Halley teacher), is a National Board-Certified Teacher!   Obtaining National Board Certification is an extremely rigorous process, and the teachers who do receive it are perceived as among the best educators in the nation. The National Board was founded in 1987 and has developed one of the most intensive processes that is “performance-based, multiple-measure, peer-reviewed, anonymously submitted and built on the highest standards of measurement.” The work is thorough, time-consuming and exhausting. It is a challenging process; but if you successfully obtain certification, you’ve reached a new, supreme level of teaching stardom!  Cheers and our compliments to Emily! We are very proud of her hard work and achievement!

Calendar Reminder

Winter Break is

December 24 - January 4

Schools and offices will be closed for winter break from December 24, 2018 through January 4, 2019. School will re-open at the normal time and classes will resume on Monday, January 7, 2019. See the complete 2018-19 school year calendar

Starting in January 2019, SACC Will Open at 8 a.m. When Schools Are Delayed for Inclement Weather

Beginning January 7, 2019, on days when FCPS announces a two-hour delayed opening, School Age Child Care (SACC) centers will open at 8 a.m. for children enrolled in the Before-School session. The one-hour delayed opening of SACC is to provide additional time for road conditions to improve and be adequately assessed, and parking lots and sidewalks to be cleared as needed.

Note: The SACC program is run by Fairfax County Government, NOT FCPS.

Salad Bar

WHES is getting a salad bar! All students who buy lunch will be able to select their own fresh fruits and vegetables and pair it with a hot entrée or hot pretzel and milk at no additional charge. The salad bar will arrive soon into the New Year and all students will be trained in appropriate salad bar procedures. You can support by encouraging your child(ren) to put only what they will eat on their dinner plates, and by practicing the use of tongs at home!
