Daniels Run Down-Family Edition, December 21, 2018

A Note from Mr. Stanley:

Dear Daniels Run Community,

Thank you for the support you have given your Daniels Run school community over the past few months during the transition from Mr. Erbrecht to Mr. Smith, your new principal.  As your interim principal, I have loved working with the dedicated and talented school staff.  The parents and our PTA provide wonderful support in multiple ways.  Most of all I have enjoyed the time spent with the students in their classrooms, specials, cafeteria, and at recess.  There is nothing better than checking in on what the children are learning. It has been a pleasure and honor to serve the Daniels Run community.

Take care,

Tim Stanley

Happy Holidays!

We would like to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of our students and families a very happy holiday season and winter break. May the start of a new year bring you peace and joy. We look forward to seeing everyone on January 7, 2019. Happy Holidays!

Welcome Principal Smith!

We are pleased to announce that Mr. Chris Smith has been named the new principal of Daniels Run Elementary School. His official start date will be January 7, 2019.

Mr. Smith is currently the assistant principal at Brookfield Elementary School where he has been a leader since 2016. Prior to his leadership role at Brookfield ES, he served as an assistant principal at Lanier Middle School from 2011-2016. Mr. Smith was a Social Studies Teacher/Department Chair and a member of School Improvement Plan committee at Centreville High School from 2008-2011. During this time, he also taught US/VA government and VA/US history for the FCPS on-line campus during the summer school session. From 2001-2008 Mr. Smith was a Social Studies teacher and Assistant Varsity Baseball coach at Herndon High School. Prior to joining Fairfax County Public Schools, Mr. Smith spent three years at Thomas G. Pullen Creative and Performing Arts Academy in Prince George’s County Public Schools as a Social Studies teacher/Department Chair. From 1998-1999 he taught Science at Buck Lodge Middle School in Prince George’s County Public Schools.

Mr. Smith brings an array of experience to the position. He is a student-centered instructional leader who believes in the importance of building positive relationships, and collaborating with all stakeholders, to ensure student success. As a school leader, Mr. Smith has actively sought opportunities to improve professional development for his teachers. He helped ensure that staff at Brookfield ES were prepared for the FCPSOn initiative, and that the focus was on developing FCPS Portrait of a Graduate skills for all students. He helped implement several programs in his buildings over the years (such as Restorative Justice practices) which led to a decrease in out-of-school suspension rates. He supported the first-ever depression and suicide screen (Signs of Suicide) for all 7th graders at Lanier MS. Mr. Smith has proven to be an effective communicator, and he is eager to deepen his relationships with all stakeholders in the as he serves the Daniels Run community in his new role.

Mr. Smith holds Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from George Mason University.

Please join us in welcoming Mr. Smith as the new principal of Daniels Run Elementary School!

Welcome Carmen Reyes!
Spanish Parent Liaison

Hello everybody!

I’m happy to join the Dragon’s family as a Spanish parent liaison. I’ll be working on Mondays from 8:30am to 3pm and Wednesdays from 8:00am to 9:30am and 12:00pm to 3:00pm. I also work as a HIPPY instructor here at Daniel’s Run on Wednesdays. I’m a former Head Start teacher assistant, summer registrar at Dunn Loring, and used to work as a lawyer back in my hometown, Lima-Peru. I enjoy reading, swimming, and volunteering in different community service projects in the area. I especially love spending time with my family. Please, don’t hesitate to contact me if you need to communicate with Spanish speaker parents (I would like to bridge the gap between home and school). Looking forward to working with all of you!
