6th Grade AAP News
This fall students in Mrs. Alt’s 6th grade AAP class were playing the Stock Market Game. The game is a simulation game where students and their teammates virtually invested in the stock market. They have been competing against elementary, middle and high school students from October – mid December. The students have reported that they’ve really enjoyed the competition. They came to AAP each week excited to see how their stocks had done and to strategize on how they could improve their standings. Throughout the competition Mrs. Alt posted the HV teams’ rankings outside her classroom. This week we were notified that two of our teams finished in the top two Elementary level places in our division in the GMU region. The other two teams finished the competition in the top 1/3 of the GMU region.
- Elementary School
- Team #1 - VA_31_ZZ612 - $100,072.77 – 11.33% above the S&P 500 Growth Index – Hunt Valley Elementary – Fairfax County Public Schools - Courtney Alt, Advisor………finishing in 6th place overall
- Team #4 - VA_31_ZZ610 - $99,967.87 – 11.22% above the S&P 500 Growth Index – Hunt Valley Elementary – Fairfax County Public Schools - Courtney Alt, Advisor………..finishing in 7th place overall
As a result of this fantastic finish these top two teams will be recognized at the Economic Education Awards Program at George Mason University in May.
Parent/Guardian Information Letter for Grades 4th-6th
Dear Parent or Guardian,
This winter our school, in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Education and the University of Virginia, is participating in a statewide student school climate survey. The purpose of this survey is to help schools assess their progress in establishing a positive school climate that promotes student learning.
I am writing to provide you with information on the student survey. The survey will be completed online using computers at school. The survey does not ask for your child’s name and all answers are anonymous (no one will know how your child answered the survey). Parents will not have access to their child’s survey answers. There is a copy of the survey available at school for your review and is available online at http://www.doe.virginia.gov/support/school-climate/index.shtml.
The survey will ask questions such as how students feel about their school, how students get along with one another and their teachers, how students feel about school rules, their perceptions of their teachers’ willingness to help them, and how they feel about attending school. They will also be asked what kinds of bullying they may have observed at school and whether they have been bullied themselves.
The survey is voluntary and your child can decide not to participate. If you do not wish for your child to participate, please notify the school office by telephone (703) 913-8800 or letter by January 9, 2019.
Your child will not receive any immediate benefit from participating in the survey, but the survey will help us to maintain a safe, inviting, and supportive learning environment for your child.
Thank you for your cooperation in this important study of school climate.
Rug Samples Needed
Mrs. Simpson’s Music room would greatly appreciate any rugs samples to sit on. As the days get colder so does the floor. Please send her an email or contact the school and she would be happy to arrange a pick up or you can bring them to the school. Thank you!
