Dear Floris Families -
What a musical celebration we had last night! A standing ovation goes out to our chorus, strings and band students for their wonderful performances. The stands of Rachel Carson were packed with an audience ready to hear pieces on which our children have been working hard this semester. Our young musicians couldn’t be so successful without the encouragement of parents, families and friends. We thank you for supporting the Arts here at Floris. We congratulate our music teachers, Mrs. Fox (Chorus), Mrs. Murphy (Chorus), Ms. Rehder (Strings), Ms. Geers (Strings), and Mrs. Cunningham (Band) for cultivating such talent in our students.
We also have some exciting news regarding a leadership opportunity for our assistant principal, Mr. Dave Gerstner. Dave has been selected to act as an Interim Principal, effective Monday, January 7, at Fairfax Villa Elementary School, while they go through the selection process for a new principal. This is a wonderful professional development opportunity for Dave. At this time we are working closely with the region office to secure an interim Assistant Principal to fill in while Dave is out. His estimated return is March 1st. We wish him all the best!
Today is our last day before a two-week winter break. School will resume on Monday, January 7, 2019. Please note the school and the front office will be closed during the break.
Finally, we wish you and your families a wonderful and warm break full of fun, rest and rejuvenation. Remember to read, read, read for enjoyment – read to your children, let your children choose the books to read themselves and listen as they share their stories with you. Throughout the break, allow books to bring the magic of imagination to life!

Giving Tree Update from the School Counselors
Thanks to the generosity of our Floris family, we were able to provide gifts to 30 children as well as food and gift cards for their families! The families were delighted and asked us to pass along their appreciation to the Floris family. Thank you for making the holidays a little brighter and for your support of this program!

For any parents in grades 2-6 who are interested in referring their child to full-time Level IV AAP for the 2019-2020 school year, Referral forms are due NO LATER than January 10, 2019.
