Recognize an Outstanding  Hollin Meadows' Staff Member

It's not too late, nominations are open through this Friday, December 14 for the 2018-2019 Outstanding Employee Awards! The process begins at the school level where parents, community members and staff nominate someone who has demonstrated excellence. It's an easy process, and all parents are encouraged to take a moment to recognize a Hollin Meadows staff member who has made a difference for their child & family. To submit a nomination, please click here. The deadline for nominations is Friday, December 14

The categories for nominations are included in the above link. If you're uncertain which category a staff member falls into, don't let that stop you. Our nominating committee will review each nomination and place it in the correct category.

Deadline for Advanced Academic Program (AAP) Referrals

Parents of 2nd-6th grade students who would like their child screened for Level 4 AAP services must submit a referral packet to Hollin Meadows' office by January 10, 2019. No late referrals will be accepted.  (Note: Please do NOT include staples or sheet protectors). You may put your referral packet in a folder or envelope marked "Attention: Mrs. McBee, AAP Level 4 Referral".

If you have questions, please contact Mrs. McBee at or visit the AAP website for information and forms.

Be Prepared for Weather Cancellations

With the arrival of winter, please make certain that arrangements have been made for your children in the event that inclement weather causes a change in the school schedule (i.e. school closed, school opening two hours late, or school closing two hours early).  FCPS will make its decision based on the safety of students and staff, following consultation with numerous weather and safety agencies. Due to the speed of updating, the official @FCPSnews Twitter account is generally the first and fastest mode of communication. Other communication channels will be updated as quickly as possible including email, text, website, other social media, and news stations. For additional information on FCPS' weather cancellation procedures click here.

Cold Weather & Recess

During cold spells, students at Hollin Meadows will have outdoor recess. Parents should send their children to school prepared to play outdoors (jackets, gloves, and hats). The only exceptions will be if is raining, there is snow & ice on the ground or the National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory/warning. If you need assistance with getting a jacket, please contact guidance counselor Deb Storck or school social worker Marsi Beschel.
