FHES: Weekly Update

Principal's Message: Early Release, Thankfulness, and Coding!

I hope this message finds you well.  It looks like we are escaping the snow storm, as it will just be south of our area. This is not a survey, but I am sure there are mixed emotions about that!  A reminder that there is a 3 hour early release for students on Friday (1:05 PM).  After departure, our staff will be participating in professional development focused on Project-based Learning (PBL) and Special Education (least restrictive environment).

I am thankful that all of our families in need have been adopted for the holiday season by our staff and other FHES families.  This is just another reminder of the power of community.  A sincere thank you to all who donated - you made a difference.

As we continue to integrate technology into our classrooms to enhance the learning experience and support the development of the Portrait of a Graduate skills, I was so impressed to recently observe Mr. Tim Scesney, our School-based Technology Specialist, teaching our kindergarten students coding during the "Hour of Code"!  In his own words, the students are Kindergarten Capable!  See the Photo of the Week at the bottom of the newsletter and follow Mr. Scesney on Twitter!

Have a great week!

All my best,

Scott

Nominate a Teacher or Staff Member at FHES - It's Easy!

The opportunity to honor a staff member for their hard work and commitment is coming soon! If there is someone you believe deserves kudos for their great work, now is the time to start thinking about what to say for the Freedom Hill nomination process!

And, there continue to be additional opportunities to highlight great Freedom Hill staff work to Fairfax County Public Schools.  FCPS Cares is a yearlong, ongoing opportunity to show thanks and appreciation.
