Students show off the drawing skills they developed with guidance from artist Kevin Bednarz. Thank you All Star Comic Con and Mr. McNutt for providing this opportunity to our students!

Tuesday is Chipotle Night!

Save the date! Lees Corner will have the next dining day on Tuesday, December 11th between 4pm - 8pm at Chipotle 14383 Newbrook Drive, Chantilly (near Wegmans). You need to tell the cashier that you are supporting the school to ensure that 33% of the proceeds will be donated to Lees Corner Elementary School PTA.

New Communication System

Fairfax County Public Schools will be moving to a new vendor to provide emergency and essential email, text, and phone notifications beginning December 14, 2018. This new system will replace Keep In Touch (KIT). If you currently receive emergency and essential communications via email, text, or phone, you do not need to do anything as you will continue to receive this information.

Parents and guardians who have included a cellphone number (in the cellphone field) on a student’s emergency care card will receive a text message on December 14 to confirm the account is set up to receive text messages from FCPS.  You do not need to do anything when you receive the text message from the new vendor, School Messenger, on December 14th. If you do not receive a text message, please check the contact information listed on your child’s emergency care card in weCare. Your cellphone number must be listed in the cellphone field in order to receive text messages from FCPS.

New this year, parents can enter their student’s cellphone number in weCare so that their student will also receive text messages for delayed openings, school closings, and late bus notifications. The student’s cellphone number will need to be entered in Section 4, under Additional Information.  If the student’s cellphone is listed in weCare, they will also receive the text message on December 14.

Emergency and essential information includes:

  • Emergency
  • Delayed openings/school closings
  •  Attendance
  • Early release
  • Buses running late
  • Low lunch balance
  • Power, telephone, internet outages or facility repairs
  • Back to school information
  • Important testing dates

If you have recently changed your contact information, please be sure to update the emergency contact information in weCare.

As a reminder, in addition to email and text messages, all FCPS weather delays and openings are also posted on Twitter, Facebook, FCPS website, school websites, and local radio and television broadcasts. Read more about Weather Cancellation Procedures.

SCA News

Candy Cane Grams

Students can order candy cane grams for anyone in our school from November 29th to December 14th. Each student should have gotten one form in their Wednesday folders. They are 50 cents each or 4 for $1; due by Friday, December 14th. We will not be able to accept forms and money after school ends on this day. Your candy cane grams will be given out on Friday, December 21st!

SCA Warm Tree

Students can bring in new hats, gloves, and scarves to decorate our Warm Tree up until Tuesday, December 19th! These donations will go to the Salvation Army.

Art Donations

To help clean up our messy hands and tables, the art department would like to get donations of tissue boxes and baby wipes. Please send any items you are able to donate to school with your child. Thank you so much for your support!

Odyssey of the Mind Judges Needed

Lees Corner is fielding two Odyssey of the Mind (OotM) teams this year and in order to compete at the tournament in March we must also identify two judges. Being a judge is a two day commitment (1 day training on Saturday March 2 and 1 day judging on Saturday March 16th). This is an excellent opportunity for a parent, educator, retired educator, or education major to see how OotM works behind-the-scenes. As the LCES judges cannot watch or judge our teams, we are seeking help from adults who are not our team members' parents. More information is available at:  https://www.novasouth.org/wp/. There are also two hour general volunteer slots the day of the competition that do not require training. If interested, please contact Amanda Mailloux (amandamarie5@yahoo.com) or Lisa Locke (lialocke@yahoo.com).

Parents Day Out

Parent’s Day Out is a chance for parents to enjoy an afternoon off, while their children are under the care of Chantilly High School Faculty/Staff and student volunteers. This event is scheduled for Saturday, December 15th from 11AM-2PM.

Potty-trained through 10 year old children will enjoy 3 hours of crafts, games, food, and a screening of Disney’s Frozen. This Winter Wonderland themed event is enhanced by a PJ dress-code and BYO blanket and water bottle. All the funds go to the CHS Class of 2022. Parents can pre-register with this link: https://goo.gl/forms/ahfFbkxPpr0bB7UN2

The cost for this event is $30 for the 1st child and $10 for each additional related child (pre-registered); $35 for a child, and $10 for each additional related child (at the door).
