Dear Bren Mar Park Families,
We have had a very busy November and are looking forward to lots of learning as we continue the second quarter. We have had many opportunities to visit classrooms and we are excited about everything that our students are learning. This month, our teachers we will be celebrating our reading teacher, Mrs. Ronda Sweet, as we dedicate our bookroom in her honor. Mrs. Millet and Ms. Downer, our music teachers, are also busy preparing students for the Winter Concert on Dec. 21st. We are excited to hear our students sing beautiful winter songs. It will be a busy December!

Literacy at Bren Mar Park
Create a literacy rich environment in your home and enrich your child’s exposure to books and reading. Do you have a variety of reading materials at home? Books, magazines, newspapers, plays, poems. Visit the library, yard sales and book give-aways at school are a good way to support your home library. December is a time for giving and books are great gifts. The gift of learning and enjoyment!
Students have been learning about different genres and a focus at BMP has been on Nonfiction text. Nonfiction books:
- Helps deepen our understandings of the world
- Build vocabulary
- Develop theories about topics
- Teaches us information
- Helps us to justify and/or change our ideas
Continue to read, write and talk about books at home and have a wonderful Winter break.
Bren Mar Park Artists
BMP artists have been working hard finishing projects and beginning to learn new skills and techniques.
5th grade artists have finished making ceramic gargoyles and have begun drawing house designs combining many styles of architecture.
4th grade artists have finished up their Virginia landscape paintings and will begin a unit on gesture drawing.
3rd grade artists are working on drawing a large self-portrait that reflects aspects of their culture and interests.
2nd grade artists have finished painting their community and are beginning to start a collage showing a community hero.
1st grade artists have finished their house design paintings and are now beginning to make a 3D house out of paper.
Kindergarten artists finished up their pumpkin patch paintings and self-portraits, and will begin to make a collage showing an imaginary city.
If you’d like to donate, we can always use yarn, Clorox wipes, and baby wipes in the art room!
A Reminder regarding sick students…
Our goal is to provide the best opportunity for your student to learn, in addition to preventing the spread of illness to others. Children will recuperate faster and more completely when they are given the opportunity to rest. Students should be symptom and fever free (less than 100 degrees) for 24 hours without medication or under treatment for 24 hours before returning to school.
Positivity Project

Thank you to all those who came out to run the halls and raise funds at Turkey Trot! We raised over $1,500 because of your work which helps us continue to do our work to fund field trips, assemblies and so much more! Family Markets:
This month’s Family Market will be tomorrow, Thursday, December 6th, 2018 at 5 p.m.
Through the Capital Area Food Bank, Family Markets are offered at Bren Mar Park. We provide families with fresh fruits, vegetables and non-perishable, healthy groceries each month. Food is offered market-style and parents can choose the items they want.

Computer Assistance:
Beginning in January, we will be holding an Open Computer Lab time for adult BMP family members on Wednesdays from 2:30-3:50 p.m. You will be able to receive assistance filling out forms, applications, navigating the school website or student resources, and accessing school resources online. (Jan. 9, 16, 23, 30)

Queridas familias de Bren Mar Park,
Hemos tenido un noviembre muy ocupado y esperamos mucho aprendizaje mientras continuamos el próximo semestre. Hemos tenido muchas oportunidades para visitar los salones de clase y estamos entusiasmados con todo lo que nuestros estudiantes están aprendiendo. Alfabetización en Bren Mar Park
Cree un ambiente rico para alfabetización en su hogar y exponga su hijo a los libros y la lectura. ¿Tienes una variedad de materiales de lectura en casa? Artistas de Bren Mar Park
Los artistas de BMP han estado trabajando para terminar proyectos y han comenzado a aprender nuevas habilidades y técnicas.
Los artistas de quinto grado han terminado de hacer gárgolas de cerámica y han comenzado a dibujar diseños de casas que combinan muchos estilos de arquitectura.
Los artistas de cuarto grado han terminado sus pinturas de paisajes de Virginia y comenzarán una unidad de dibujo de gestos.
Los artistas de tercer grado están trabajando en dibujar un gran autorretrato que refleja aspectos de su cultura e intereses.
Los artistas de segundo grado han terminado de pintar su comunidad y están comenzando un collage que muestra a un héroe comunitario.
Los artistas de 1er grado han terminado las pinturas de diseño de sus casas y ahora están empezando a hacer una casa 3D en papel.
Los artistas de kindergarten terminaron sus cuadros de calabazas y autorretratos, y comenzarán a hacer un collage que muestre una ciudad imaginaria.
Si desea donar, siempre podemos usar hilo, toallitas Clorox y toallitas para bebés en la sala de arte
Una Nota de Estudiantes Enfermos
Nuestro objetivo es proporcionar la mejor oportunidad para los estudiantes para aprender. Además de prevenir la propagación de la enfermedad a otros, los niños se recuerdan más rápido y completamente cuando se les da la oportunidad de descansar. Por favor, no administrar medicamentos para reducir fiebre y enviar a su hijo a la escuela. Los estudiantes deben ser libre de síntoma y libres de fiebre (menos de 100 grado) durante 24 horas sin el uso de medicamento o en tratamiento durante 24 horas antes de regresar a la escuela.
Proyecto de positividad
El mensaje del Proyecto Positividad de esta semana se centrará en la bondad.
