Volume 2, Issue 20; December 2, 2018
Inclusion: The term inclusion captures, in one word, an all-embracing societal ideology. Regarding individuals with disabilities and special education, inclusion secures opportunities for students with disabilities to learn alongside their non-disabled peers in general education classrooms (Special Education Guide, 2018).
This year, Inclusive Schools Week will be celebrated December 3-7. The theme for this year is "Kaleidoscope of Friends." The staff and students of Flint Hill will celebrate this week with a variety of activities. On Friday, December 7th, staff and students are asked to wear as many bright colors as they can. We are excited to see our school community represent a multitude of bright vibrant colors, just like a kaleidoscope. This will be a great week of learning and sharing!
Report Card Printing
Our county is moving to a paperless progress report system. First quarter report cards will be printed; however, we anticipate going paperless for our second quarter progress reports--with your help. Please create a ParentVUE account to assist with our smooth transition to paperless delivery. If you need an activation code, please contact our Student Information Assistant (SIA), Mrs. Shirley Eason, for assistance.
DedicatED
In light of inclusive schools week, and effective practices that meet the needs of all learners, please watch this great video on differentiation.
"When some teachers think of differentiation, they imagine having to create a different lesson for every student in the room. In this video, teacher and author Larry Ferlazzo explains that differentiating instruction is really about getting to know your students and making decisions, often in the moment, based on what they need. He offers some low-lift strategies he’s learned over the years for making activities accessible for students with all types of gifts and challenges."
