The Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Parent Resource Center (PRC) provides resources, information, and consultations to support the success of all students. Confidential consultations, an extensive lending library, and a year-long calendar of workshops are offered for parents, educators, and community members. All workshops are held at the Dunn Loring Center for Parent Services, 2334 Gallows Road, Entrance 1 - Room 100, Dunn Loring, VA, unless otherwise noted. You may register for workshops online.

  • Mindfulness for Children: Evidence-Based Practices to Use at Home
    The use of yoga and mindfulness in schools is on the rise and it’s no wonder why. These evidenced-based practices are the perfect tool to support your children in developing strong social-emotional development and improving behavior and academic performance. Participants will learn the basics and benefits of yoga and mindfulness and will walk away with practical and creative ways to encourage the use of these holistic practices at home.

  • The Individualized Education Program (IEP) Transition Plan: Postsecondary Planning in Middle and High School
    Join FCPS Career and Transition Services (CTS) to learn the importance of the IEP Transition Plan for effective postsecondary planning in middle and high school. Have in-depth conversations with CTS staff members and get answers to questions about what parents should look for, questions to ask the school team, questions to ask your child, and what role the IEP plays in increasing self-advocacy.

As the holidays approach, please remember that breaks in the school year are a great opportunity to collect data for ESY discussions during IEP meetings. A specialist from ESY and Assessment would be glad to schedule a time to speak to school teams about ESY criteria and goal writing.


The Office of ESY and Assessment will be offering the final training in the series: Year Long Overview of the Virginia Alternate Assessment (VAAP): Putting it All Together on February 4, 2019. This training is for both new and veteran teachers of students participating in the VAAP. You may sign up on My PLT course #SS-44021.


ESY 2019 Save the Date: 2019 SUMMER ESY for students will be July 1-26, 2019. More information for staff members regarding start dates and job opportunities will be coming soon.


During the 2018-19 school year, Assistive Technology Services (ATS) will be offering training sessions focused on the use of high-end Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices. Participants will learn basic programming and maintenance of the devices as well as integration ideas. These sessions are open to both staff members and parents of students using the specific devices. To register, contact the ATS resource teacher who supports your school. December sessions will include the following topics:
