Dear CES,

Our students did a wonderful job transitioning back to school after the Thanksgiving Break! Everyone is focused and engaged in learning.

We had a very successful Boosterthon FUN Run on Monday. The students had a great time and did an amazing job fund raising for CES!

We held Our second Family Dinner and STEAM Night on Tuesday. Staff, students, and families created paper helicopters and paper airplanes. They then used their products to compete in a variety of aviation tasks. We also enjoyed wonderful soup made by Mrs. Aderholt and Mrs. Moulder. It was a night filled with fun, food, and learning. We hope to see you at our next event on Tuesday, January 15th.

This week we selected our yearbook cover finalists (below) and winner (above). We are so proud of the effort each of them exhibited. All entries included aspects of CES that make us the best!

What is this Winter Craft & Movie Night?

It is a family friendly night for our CES families and friends. The PTA has lined up some fun crafts for children and families. We will have a small selection of vendors with crafts that make for fun holiday or anytime gifts. We will wrap the night with a showing of either Elf or Home Alone (vote on FB, @CentrevillePTA1).

In addition to these activities, there will be a HOT CHOCOLATE BAR! We'll have hot chocolate with several topping options for sale. To make this even sweeter, if you bring your own mug (we'll only fill up to 8 oz.) you'll get one cup free! You can also pre-order dinner from Chick-Fil-A!

This event is FREE for PTA members & their families. There is a $2 ticket charge, pre-sale only, $3 at the door for non-members ages 5+.

You may pre-order tickets & dinner using the form sent home in communicators this week or online at https://centrevillees.ptboard.com/home

Help Wanted!!!!

We have an urgent need for 2 committees to be formed that are essential to the operation of our PTA! These committees do not require a ton of time to be committed. The board will provide all the information needed to help make both committees successful! Email Charlotte Wright, PTA President, president@centrevillepta.org, if you are able to help or you can sign up online at https://centrevillees.ptboard.com/home.

Standing Rules Committee: Standing rules provide for the day-by-day operation of our PTA. Procedures that are not covered in our bylaws, but are a general policy or way of operating belong in standing rules. This committee will consist of 5-8 current PTA members and will meet three (3) times. Twice with the board and then once without the board. The chairman of this committee, elected by members of the committee, will then share the decided upon Standing Rules at a General PTA Meeting to be adopted. We request to have members sign up for this committee no later than December 13th, 2018.

Nomination Committee: We will need a nominating committee consisting of 3 members by December 13, 2018. The committee will elect its own chairman. The committee will nominate an eligible person for each office to be filled for the 2019-2020 school year and report its nominees at the April regular PTA meeting. At the election meeting in May 2019, additional nominations may be made from the floor. If you are interested in helping our PTA continue to be successful, please consider joining this committee as stated in our bylaws.

THANK YOU for reaching out to friends and family to support our efforts to raise funds for our school! Your support along with the teachers & staff at CES are critical to making this event a success. We are almost at 100% collection for pledges, which is AMAZING! Please reach out to those remaining sponsors to collect those final pledges.

PJ day

p2

This past week our students focused on the power of our words and actions.

"Knowing that my words and actions affect others."

This means that everything we do, say, text, tweet, snap, or post can positively or negatively impact other people. According to research from McKinsey & Co, “the typical American hears or reads more than one hundred thousand words every day.” Think about that for a moment: 100,000 words every single day. Now, stop and ask yourself, “Are the percentage of words someone else hears or reads from me helping or hurting that person?” As Rachel Wolchin says, “Be mindful with words. A string of some that don’t mean much to you may stick with someone for a lifetime.”

And, moving beyond our words and social media posts, our actions can have ripple effects long after we make them. Deeds highlighting our character – such as forgiving a sibling, being present and enthusiastic about a colleague’s presentation, or kindly holding the elevator door for a stranger – can impact the people we love, work with, or even just bump into on the street. Through your actions – and the character strengths you do/don’t exemplify in them – you have the power to make somebody happy, sad, inspired, or discouraged. And, always remember, our words and actions are our choices to make.
