Bring Your Own Device Plan (BYOD)

Dear Families,

FCPS allows all students to bring their own computing devices to school. With parental permission, students may bring their own personally owned devices such as laptops, tablets, smartphones and e-readers to school for authorized instructional use. Student participation and parent permission in Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is governed and acknowledged by the Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) document.

Please remind your child to refrain from using electronic devices on the school bus. For more information, please see the FHES BYOD Plan below. If you have any questions, please contact Allison Hoak at achoak@fcps.edu.

GUIDELINES

STUDENT OWNED DEVICES

       Students will:

  • Read and accept the acceptable use policy for student network access within the SR&R document.
  • Charge their device overnight before bringing it to school.
  • Use FCPS WiFi only.
  • Keep their device on their person. There is no lending of devices.
  • Get teacher permission before using your personal device.
  • Get parent approval before installing new apps. We will not require specific apps.
  • Use for class-related purposes ONLY. No social media, etc.
  • Respect no-use areas (bathrooms, cafeteria, hallways, bus, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot their own device; ask parents for help.
  • Secure their device in their backpack.
  • Remember this a privilege that can be removed at any time.

FCPS NETWORK

       Students will:

  • Use his or her account/password only to sign in
  • Refrain from use of offensive, obscene, or harassing language.
  • Not use videos, photos, emails and messaging not related to a specific lesson.
  • Be subject to disciplinary action if accessing sites that are not approved by the teacher for educational purposes.
  • Be responsible for reporting any inappropriate material they receive.
  • Register all personal devices with FCPSonboard to configure the wireless account.
