Hughes MS Updates

Principal's Message:

Dear Hughes Parents, Guardians, and Students,

.

It is the season of giving and at Hughes we are in that spirit.  This week the Family and Consumer Science class packed lunches for the Embry Rucker Shelter to help serve community members in need.  If you would like to join our efforts to help Hughes families enjoy the holidays there will be a Giving Tree in the Main Office with gift requests starting Tuesday, December 4.

Sincerely,

Aimée Monticchio

Principal

giving

Looking for a way to give the holidays more meaning? The Langston Hughes Holiday Giving tree is dedicated to helping children and families this holiday season. By taking an ornament from our tree, you can fulfill a holiday gift wish of a child or family in our community. Your spirit of giving will make the holidays brighter for those in need.

IB MYP Updates:

Part of the Hughes mission, as an IB Middle Years Program and FCPS school, is to "inspire, enable, and empower students to meet high academic standards, lead ethical lives, and demonstrate responsible citizenship." To reinforce this mission, we are supporting students in completing and logging service learning hours.

Service Learning Hours for the month of November are due and will be approved by our IB Coordinator next week. Please encourage your students to log any service hours completed in November by logging onto Blackboard, clicking on "Naviance" and selecting x2vol. X2Vol is the online website to log hours. For more detailed directions, students should see the announcement posted on their grade-level Google Classroom.

As a reminder, all students in FCPS are expected to complete at least 15 hours of service learning by the end of 8th grade. If you have questions about service learning opportunities or logging service hours, please reach out to Ms. Hailfinger, our IB MYP Coordinator, via email at dehailfinger@fcps.edu.
