Cold Weather Recess Reminder
 |
|
We make every effort to go outside for recess, even in cold weather. Please remember to send students to school with warm jackets, gloves/mittens and hats. We also ask that all hats, mittens, and jackets be labeled with your child’s name. This way we can quickly find the owner of a misplaced item. |

Advanced Academic Program (AAP) Referrals for Full-Time AAP Level IV (Grades 2–7)
Deadline: January 10, 2019
Parents or guardians of students not in the second grade screening pool may initiate the full-time AAP Level IV screening process by completing and submitting an Advanced Academic Programs Level IV Referral Form to the Hunters Woods ES Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, Ms. Villers, no later than January 10, 2019. No late referrals will be accepted. Second grade students not in the pool and all students in grades 3-7 are screened only by referral. Forms are available on the AAP website (https://www.fcps.edu/registration/advanced-academics-identification-and-placement/elementary-school) and in the Parent Information Packet available at the local school. Parents or guardians of students who are in the second grade pool will be notified by the school. Students who are not in the second grade pool will not receive notification. The benchmark score used to create the second grade pool will be published on the AAP website mid-January.
Please do not wait for test scores before submitting a referral for your student in grades 2-7 as there will be no referrals for Level IV screening accepted past the deadline of January 10, 2019. If you are waiting for test scores and would like your student screened for Level IV please submit the referral by the published deadline (even if you have not received the test scores for your student). Student test scores will be added to screening files when they become available.
Mrs. Villers will be hosting a parent information coffee on December 20, 2018 at 9:30 AM to respond to final questions and procedures for the level IV referral process. This meeting is intended for those parents who are completing the referral process for the January 10, 2019 deadline.
Hunters Woods has become a partner school with the Positivity Project (P2) for the 2018-2019 school year. We are so excited to join many other FCPS partner schools. The mission of The Positivity Project is to empower students to build strong relationships -- by understanding, appreciating, and living out the 24-character strengths in us all. This past week the character strength we highlighted was Other People Matter Mindset: Knowing My Words and Actions Affect Others. Teachers and teams highlight these themes through morning meetings, books, class discussions or other class activities. Each week there is a different character strength highlighted, the P2 calendar will help you follow along with what our focus is each week. There are character cards which may be helpful to you as a parent when talking with your students about the specific character strength.
Next week’s character strength: Kindness
Stay tuned for more information about the Positivity Project! Students will be learning about 24 character strengths and discussing #OtherPeopleMatter. Check out this video on the meaning behind #OtherPeopleMatter!
